So the moment of truth is near as the Penguin update will roll out in a couple of weeks.

How are you preparing for it? Are you building authority links, maybe you are cleaning your link profile to look as much natural is it can? Or maybe you believe in miracles? :)

Which segments do you think will be targeted the most?

Mostly I do SEO in a small local market and use simple "2 tiers" (sometimes add additional tier) method: money site <- unique content <- spammy links. Never had any problem with it.

For Penguin I updated my strategy a bit: I started using 15-20% (used up to 25 before) exact anchor, built some quality profile links to web 2.0 (up to 50), and added additional tier by default.
    Think that should be enough.

Maybe some of you will make drastic changes to your SEO strategy?

Just take it as it goes, not much you can do to prevent the disaster Big G will soon cause. A little tweaking over a short period of time and we'll be back on top again anyways. We have to adapt, that is all.

I'm usually that guy who tries to prepare for everything. IMHO it's better to invest small amount of time to improve website's link profile, than to sit in a shit hole and lose money :)

Focus on improving areas where you're almost positive they won't hit. No point in spending the time fixing your method and strategy when you're unsure where they'll be coming from. Just my $0.02 anyways.

All idea is to move spammy links far away from 1st layer.
Even better if you can invest to host all 1st and 2nd layers on your own domains and keep full control over it.

I am building authority links to my sites and my client sites.
Nothing beats links from super high DA and PA sites.

This is a good strat, so you can remove all the links if need be. Will cost higher than average, and a bit tougher to manage but definitely pays off and has it's security.

Well now I manage more than 500 web 2.0 accounts. Started to move my articles to my own domains last year, it's a bit expensive but I can feel calm about someone deleting one of my properties :)

Penguin's been long awaited. And since the last update, I built a new site without spending a single dime on back links. Whatever back links I did manage to get was via articles submitted to similar niche websites + a couple of authority websites with absolutely no keyword targeting (using words like: here, domain.com, website, click here, etc) + niche related forum sigs and relevant links in the post. Also focused on social signals (ex: Like/Tweet to download file and so on), which has managed to also bring in some traffic from FB/Twitter/Linked.Will be interesting to see how this site will react when Penguin rolls out. It currently gets about 100 odd unique visits per day and makes about $2 - 5 via adsense on avg/day. This time around, simply followed the principle of 'focusing on content/value to the reader' Got to see whether google will respect that or not. Fingers crossed!!

I'm sure they will my friend! I got a feeling this update will focus alot on a diversed backlink profile. Now you can have your money kw at like 20-30%, I'm sure after this update it will be less!

I've done nothing. Spamming your site with high quality links right now might trigger a red flag when they apply the update, who knows. If your site is ranking now, just keep doing what you're doing. Don't fuck with something that ain't broke, man.

Penguin 2.0 is probably just another version to boost the 800lb gorillas even higher in the serps, while driving small businesses out of the game. I also expect more domain crowding by Amazon, Youtube, etc.

Google is about as anti-small business as you can get without getting the lazy government employees at the FTC off their fat rumps.

That is exactly what it's about. The big boys will claim even more property. Google is a publicly held company and people will only invest in their rags if they show profit. It's all about PPC and the big boys for Google.

THIS. Every time I manage to overtake amazon after every update they some how get in front of me again doing nothing :( sometimes I think these big sites actually pay Google to suck their dick.

If you're building links the exact same way as everyone else is, there's a higher chance of getting hit because that's what google usually targets. If you've got your own twist or unique style to it, there's a good chance your rankings will just go up on each update. I try my best to avoid following the masses and take those extra step that most won't, kind of like what OP is doing.
