I had a site which got penalized by google in 2024 by december spam update and i redirected it to a new domain. Currently new domain is sandboxed hard and I'm waiting for it. But I got a feeling that my old domain got out of penalty, and is there anyway to test this easy and fast?

just throw up a simple page on old domain, unique content, index it in search console. see if it ranks for any easy long-tail keywords in a week or so. if it crawls fast n shows up ok, penalty might be gone. if it’s still buried or deindexed, probs still hit. no magic tool for it really, gotta test live.
 
Actually... the message above mine is clever... just post an article on the old domain and see how google will treat it.

Yeah, that makes sense, I created a simple html file, canceled 301, and sent it to index from gsc, lets see how it goes

What makes you think that penalty is gone now ?
 
You can temporarily remove the redirect and request indexing on a few old URLs. If they start ranking again within days, the penalty might be lifted. Just monitor carefully to avoid confusing Google.
 
maybe its not sandboxed anymore but i dont think that it has some perspectives. of course it happens but very rarely. any way test it and good luck )) i had same sanbox but for 1 month and it has been back to old position. but other all of websites gone forever :d

Old domain was penalized for sure, but the new one is still not out of the sandbox, maybe it's also penalized. I can't be sure.
 
To be absolutely sure that the Google penalty has been lifted from the old domain, you’ll need to disable the 301 redirect to the new domain and restore a full backup of the website. Checking only the homepage won’t be enough - you’ll need to monitor changes in clicks and impressions across multiple pages.

However, doing this will cancel your domain migration. So you need to decide what matters more - verifying the recovery or completing the migration successfully.
 
One quick way to test if the old domain is out of penalty is to reindex a few unique pages and see how fast they appear in search + whether they rank at all. If indexing is fast and you’re getting impressions, that’s usually a good sign. Anyone else seen recovery from the Dec ’24 spam update yet?
 
Quickest way to check is to remove the redirect temporarily (for a day or two) and reindex the old domain via Google Search Console. Then monitor if it starts getting impressions or traffic again in Search Console or Google Search.

Try this and monitor the website closely via search console or ahrefs. Also, do note down the website stats prior to changes too.
 
To check if your old domain is out of penalty, start by removing the 301 redirect to the new domain. Restore a few high-quality pages that were previously indexed and had some traffic or backlinks. Once live, submit those URLs in Google Search Console using the URL Inspection tool to request reindexing. Over the next 7 to 14 days, closely monitor Search Console for any signs of indexing, crawl activity, and impressions. If the pages begin to show up in search results or gain impressions and clicks, it’s a strong indicator that the penalty has been lifted. Additionally, you can check the manual actions section in Search Console to ensure there are no remaining penalties. Using tools like Ahrefs or Semrush, observe whether keyword rankings or backlinks show signs of recovery, which further confirms penalty recovery.
 
Yeah, there is a pretty quick way to get a feel for whether your old domain is still penalized—nothing official, but enough to give you a signal. Maybe:

Go to Google and search:

site:your-old-domain.com

If zero or very few results show up, it's likely still penalized or deindexed. If a decent number of pages are indexed again, that’s a good sign.
 
What to do if my pages are getting indexed quickly, pretty much the the same day of publishing but never make in SERP? Site was hit by December Spam update. Previously had like 20k impressions, now less than 200.

Is it wordpress?
 
There’s a quick way to check, simply restore the old domain and verify it in Search Console, publish one or two new posts. Monitor indexing and impressions for a bit. If posts get indexed quickly and impressions start rising, it’s out of the penalty.
 
If you strongly believe that the site is out of penalty, then connect it to GSC and check manual actions. Try to reindex old posts and check if new posts get crawled and indexed normally. If everything is fine, you can bring it back. Otherwise, redirect it to your new domain as usual.
