Today my site has dropped from 2nd & 6th to 74th & 97th for my 2 primary keywords.

When I do site:domainname.org the pages of my site are still listed with the exception of my index page, which is what I'm pointing 95% of my backlinks at.

Site is 3 years old, PR4 and the only backlinking I've done in the last month was add it to 3 blog networks. The 3 blog networks have been drip feeding the backlinks for the site for the last 2 weeks, with another 2 weeks of links to be dropped.

I'm fine with the site dancing but deindexing my index page has got me worried.

Any ideas or advice?

Interesting, probably a google dance if other pages are still indexed. Try to monitor for a few more days to see whether your index page is back. But i will be worried if it continues that way. Anyone has an explanation on this, I'm interested to know as well.
 
Ive never heard of a deindex for using blog networks either. damn thats scary shit bro
 
This is just google dance if you are not drop to 100+, and if you input the website name without .com and saw your website on rank 5 ~ rank 1, you are just dance and please continue building links and update the website your website will be bk in 1-2 weeks.
 
If google deindexes you, they deindex the whole domain, not individual pages...

I've had around 200 delisted over the years with the heavy duty SEO testing i do, and when they go; everything goes.

So you're almost definitely experiencing a penalty of some sort.

I'd say the root of your issue is your statement that 95% of all your backlinks are to the home page. Since panda, google has been even less forgiving of this type of unnatural link profile. Start building links deep and wide, with a lot of variety in anchors. Also check that you're not over optimising your home page anchors. You could try diluting them with a few brand/URL and mixed generic anchors and see if that helps.

If it's a hard penalty then it can take a long time to come back, but it normally only affects certain keywords, and working on other keywords for that page can help.

There is also the possibility of some Google data centres being out of sync and so you're getting mixed results because of the penalty. Try every 24 hrs and see if it changes.
 
I've experienced a very similar situation some months ago with a client website.
I've found the issue isnt bcz of offsite but its insite.
In my case when I removed/changed the text of the index page the site returned to the 1st position so try to remove/replace the content with a different one.
Maybe G think you have copy/pasted the content at your index page.
 
That sounds strange to me considering a 3 yr. old site. I have no answer for that
 
Wow that is scary. I would say it was first Google over valuing but your website is already old.

We did change the title tags on the page as well! I wonder if that could be the problem!

I'll wait 2 weeks to see if it comes back, if not then I'll rewrite the page and see if it gets reindexed.

Thank you for that. I'll give it 2 weeks to see if there is any change then I'll re-write all the content.
 
if its de-indexed than you cant find any page on google.so it wont all. give it time to recover from SEO thats all
 
Don't know if it makes any difference but Google has remove the PR4 rating of the homepage.
 
I've noticed that G is definitely culling out anything that looks like duplicate content on sites, especially tags (that seems to be a big target for them right now). Yesterday, I saw that they did a weird one with all my indexed vids and they were showing up with all the same date.

Whenever these oddities happen (and if you're sandboxed or de-indexed), you're entire site will go with it. It looks like they're playing with algorithms again and they're going to be dings happening. Just keep on doing what you're doing so it looks natural and you'll be back up to where you were again if not higher. I know it sounds old school, but onsite optimization is still something they like. I learned the hard way when my site dropped way off the charts when I stopped, but then fixing that, we're back in the top spots.

It almost seems like G is going back a little to the basics so good look and just keep on plugging that G hole!

This sounds suspiciously familiar. 1-2 weeks ago my new site (~2 months old now) had major drops for two keywords, the main keyword i've been targeting and another one that had been targeted some. There are not that many links built yet, but most of them are to the main page for the main keyword. I was planning to go back after building out this round to broaden the link base.

Sounds like I should've gone wide/deep first and then started building each out from there...
 
Same thing happened to one of my keywords a couple weeks ago and it never recovered. Now lingering somewhere around 150-200.... lol it sucks!
 
That seems like a canonical issue, no? You should fix that. Also, changing title tags can have an effect on rankings. I've seen negative things happen when changing a title tag. You may also tripped an over optimization filter. This is an onsite filter that can be remedied by de-optimizing your site.

Be sure your keyword density is low, you only have 1 H1 and 1 H2 tag, your title tag is below 70ish characters with the main keyword once and then secondary keyword, and keep your links on page below 100 at the most, but I prefer to keep it below 50. If you have a ton of links on your page including your menu items, try reducing that down and see if it helps.

If you have over 15% keyword density, try to lower that and see if your site bounces back. If not, you may be dealing with a penalty and not a filter...

Title tag changes can seriously affect your SERP position. Sometimes it can be good, sometimes it can be really bad. I hope you didn't go with a new title tag that was completely different from the old one....
