What of one of the last two updates was meant to 'low-key' reverse effects of the previous ones?
Remember Google never 'reverses' updates, they update to update.

Yes. (-) x (-) = (+). Google can't publicly admit that their last algorithm update went wrong, as they know the consequences very well.
I guess the same. Many webmasters have complained that the last update completely wiped their high-authority sites from the first page. Google still shows mercy towards real bloggers, it seems.
