Hi,

For some reason google is no longer using my home page 'page title' in the serps. it is instead displaying our company name instead of the key word based title of the page. The page title I wrote is of medium length and not spammy and makes grammatical sense.

I have added NOODP meta as I thought it may have been displaying dmoz title instead, however NOODP has changed nothing.

Has anyone any ideas why google is not displaying my page title? Any tips or techniques to fix this would be really helpful.

Thanks

Can you send me the source code of the page? or PM the URL and let me look?

Yeah it's G't s new thing - they use "titles" they they come up with and snippet's of your text to make meta descriptions for your site.

They official replay was that the changes happened once the algo "discovers" that the new title is much more appropriate for your site.

As for how to fix it - I have no clue my title/meta is still messed up and no matter what I do it stays the same

Hi bulldogs,

Did it have any affect on your ranking?

Nah, but I'm guessing it did lower my CTR cause title and meta barely make any sense now LOL... waiting for webmaster tools to update the stats to be sure

Same here. Really frustrating! Keep us updated with your webmaster tools results.

Cheers

Karl

I believe the new algorithm uses anchor text of links in certain cases. Not 100% sure.

Hi,

Have you noticed any changes to support this? I think I'll check my site tomorrow for that.

Yes! This is true - but if you rank for several KW's with your site you'll see a different "changed" meta/title for each KW.

Noticed this also. Some of my KW's/anchors are fine while the others are messed up

Yes, this is relatively new and quite annoying! Google will now change your title text if "it" thinks there is a better title to describe your page than the one you used.

This can happen. Did you try to change your title? Or Make it in new words with same keywords. This happened to my sites. And I did try this, so google index my sites' titles again.

I also having this situation, some of my website pages title don't show in SERPs.

My site is about 8 years old so its well aged.

Thanks for all your input everyone :)

The issue has been around for some time. The problem and the fix are below:

Google may change the snippet of a website page in the search results if the title is: short, shared across large parts of your site or keyword stuffed.

To help prevent this:
  • Ensure each of your web pages has unique/different titles.
  • The title should not be too short or too long.
  • The title should be related to the content, useful and descriptive.
