So today I noticed that google is not using my meta descriptions for a site I have. It's using some text from the about us and contact page?

I'm using Yoast, not going over 150 chars and the description is not stuffed with KW's.

Anyone had this before or knows how to deal with it?

Generally speaking google has stop using preset meta lot time ago.

That`s something that`s happened for a lot of time.. google picks a phrase from your article with the searched keyword instead of your meta...

I have not wasted my time writing meta descriptions for years now, as Google tends to ignore them. I still do meta titles, which seem hit and miss these days.

The problem is that if you don't add meta description, you will get duplicate meta description notice in webmaster tool html improvment. I have seen this a couple of time on my sites. It probably grab a chunk of text and use it for all pages.

Interestingly google uses my meta descriptions for pretty much all of my other sites.

ihre is no system .. sometimes they use it sometimes not. just add it and hope its ok ;)

I recommend that you add the words that you want to show up around the start of your article, or use a seo plugin to have the possibility of it showing up.

LIke yoast you mean?

Its seems normal but you could help by adding the noodp tags so it doesnt pull tags from directory submissions.
