So I'm in the market for a tablet and can't decide if I should get the iPad 2 or Google nexus 7.

Nexus 7 has better specs - iPad has better built quality.
Nexus has android (more customization) - iPad has iOS (easy to use)

What I'm really concerned about is the battery life. It needs to have good battery life.

So... what do you guys recommend? I'd appreciate if you can share your experience.

NOTE : The main reason why I'm buying a tablet is that I read a lot every day and can't sit in front of my computer all day long.

    I have a nexus 7

its the best £160 I've spent in the last 5 years.

It is a piece of genius, battery does 1 day with moderate usage, speed is amazing, feel of it is good. Not the greatest quality build wise but I'm not going to be throwing it around.

I bought it to show clients web design work and video promo's.

I've not had an iPad but I don't want one wither after getting a nexus.

The screen is also stunning, colours pop out at you and its great resolution (1280 x 800 @ 215ppi)

Because of the cost differential I would go with the Android based tablet instead of paying the Apple tax. Also, I actually prefer Android over iOS for the reasons you specify regarding the open system. But if you need the training wheels you can't go wrong with Apple.

That's 2 votes for Nexus. Quite the opposite of what I was expecting :p

I know the 16GB Nexus version is almost half the price of an iPad... but price not a big problem here. I am willing to spend the extra money if it is worth it.

    Keep 'em coming guys.

I would prefer Android based phone and tab. Cost difference is much as compared to quality.

I have both and being an Apple fan, I'd still recommend the Nexus 7. If you're looking for a bigger screen obviously go for an iPad but in terms of speed, Nexus has got 'enough' for me and I use it almost daily for browsing, emailing and Youtube.

I will go for android because of the scalability and the way the whole system works. Apps "talking" and passing data to one another. It is not that hard to use too compared to ipad.

I cant fault the ipad. Tried an Android tablet and couldnt be arsed to get interested in a load of new apps so stuck with the Apple.

Thats not a fair comparison as its based on my laziness but I would say if all you want to do is read then just get a Kindle. I have the Kindle app on my ipad and after a while its hard on the eyes(and the ipad gets heavy when you are carrying it all the time) Kindle is great for reading, mega portable and can do some light browsing.

I dont have an ipad but I do have a nexus 7

Quality does not have the wow factor, but it's more than moderate and surely doesn't feel cheap..
Display is awesome (very) and actually has more pixels than the ipad mini (which has a 20 something % bigger screen)!
You say android is more diffucult, but I truly believe that even the most retarted person can use it.. And since you are in IM I am sure you will have no problem handling it :)
App market is full of free and paid apps and its easy to get the paid ones via other means ;) There are also many great games, many of which are free (e.g arcane legends)
Super fast, no lags, extremely rare crashes.

I have mine for free 3 months and I have bought many gadgets. It's perhaps the only one that feels like I stole the company producing it instead the other way around.. And this is expected as Google actually makes no money from the devices itself, but only from ads and market

If I had to choose whether to buy a Nexus 7 or iPad2, I would get the Nexus and here's why:
    1. It is a newer device.
    2. I am a geek who loves messing with android (flashing new ROMs and kernels is always fun).
    3. Higher resolution and pixel density, which is what you need for reading.
    4. Nexus 7 has support for mass USB storage.

These are just some of the things that came in my mind first.

However, personally, I would get the latest iPad, which is iPad4. It's just that I find Apple iPads to be superior to Android when it comes to tablets.

If you read a lot, you might even consider buying a Nexus 10 instead, as it has the perfect resolution for reading. But keep in mind that it sucks when it comes to playing HD games and is not entirely smooth.

To answer the original question... I have both an iPad Mini wifi 16Gb and a Google Nexus 7 wifi 32Gb and run an iPhone 5 16Gb as my... um... phone.

The Nexus 7 is my Go-To tablet and the only thing I wish it had and doesn't is the IOS Goodreader PDF reader app. if the iPad Mini had GPS functionality then it'd be a close-run race, but it doesn't so it isn't. Besides, the nexus 7 gives awesome video and, using an OTG cable and a couple of choice apps, you can add external USB storage. With Stickmount (requires rooting) I have read/written to a 500Gb portable hard drive. Try doing that with your IOS device.

I have IPad Mini and I have nexus 7 , most of what I had to say has already been said.

Now the point is you want a a tablet iPad 2 is 10" form factor whereas nexus 7 is 7"
compared to most of the stuff nexus 7 leads unless you are looking for elegance and class.

Nexus 7 is more comfortable to carry compared to iPad 2 .

And if you decide to compare between iPad 2 and Nexus 7, then there will be serious competition, but Mini is really to high for the price.

Good luck, nexus 7 it is!
