Completely whitehat and it is not a website designed for product reviews so I don't think it was affected by that update. Maybe a new update coming around?

Looks like you've been hit by the core update.
There are 2 updates in September, the core and the review which hasn't rolled out yet.

Which one hasn't been rolled yet? I have heard that the review update was completed as of September 26 so the website has been hit by the core update?

No, the review updated hasn't rolled out yet. The core update was completed on 26th so that one hit you.

Ok they rolled out both. They first updated the core rollout, it wasn't saying the same about product review update when I checked.
Buy yeah, op doesn't have product reviews so I think core hit him.

Yes very much possible. Otherwise your website might be targetted wrongly in products review update.

From what I have noticed only certain pages and categories (along with the posts) have been hit. From top 5 to nowhere to be found (100+). The categories are pretty much same design and the posts have similar posting structure and all that stuff. Still cannot figure it out. The rest pages and categories are sitting at the top 5 positions. Also, the homepage (partial keyword) is ranking on the first spot along with some of the rest pages/categories/posts. Anyone here with website that has been hit like this?

They have not officially declared any new update. But they might be doing some adjustments to previous updates and that is why why you are seeing this much movement.

It's pretty strange since affected only a few pages/categories/posts even they have almost same structure with the not affected ones. I hope it rolls back.

Google new updates is content helpful algorithm . Where google said if your website has low quality content or AI content will be punished by according to this algorithm.
Google had roll out this algorithm on 26 September . If your website find some suspicious according to this algorithm. You will be website punished and website traffic goes down.

My traffic was 20% down yesterday, however, it looks normal today.
Although, I already lost 35% of my traffic from the initial days in core update.
