has anyone tried building backlinks to google my business listing?
Just doing a research as to the effects of this.

Of course it help. Many of our listing in Top 3.

For GMB Ranking, you need more positive reviews as much as possible.

Can you make gmb rank for keywords
I thought you are saying for GMB ranking only, now I got your point.

For search ranking you can build back links, I see many people doing this for local SEO ranking.

Building backlinks won't help you increase its ranking. Reviews helps in improving the rank is google my business results.

Not true at all. A well placed link in the right areas, with a decent and optimised GMB can easily outrank a profile without reviews, reviews just help get CTR

It’s been in the back of my mind for a while now.
GMB listing show up for certain keywords on your website or the name of your business. But can you actually optimise and build backlink to rank for popular keywords in the same way you try to rank a website. I mean does google actually care about these backlinks or take these into account with GMB.

I mean local citations are similar to backlinks. Can I just create blogpost with name, number, address etc and “anchor text” with a different keyword back to the GMB listing.

Will that GMB listing if say it had only 10 reviews + 500 backlinks. Outrank another GMB listing with say 100 reviews.

Not sure am explaining right. But I Hope got get what am trying to do.

For GMB Reviews are the most vital fact. Aggressive link building looks spammy & I don't think it will help you better. get lot's of Reviews first then Start link building. Don't go crazy, start slowly & everything should look natural.

The proof is in the pudding is it not? I asked this question and was told no backlinks at all. Google wants your GMB as natural as possible. We have been adding content, videos etc to the site for over 12 months. We are position 1 on the map listing and position 8 on the natural listings. Google plays with our heads
