Hi there quick question for you guys. Our rankings are increasing (now on first page!) for 2 keywords in particular. Will we see and increase in google maps rankings for these keywords as well or do I need to make other optimizations to increase our "letter" position?

Hey -

I assume you are talking about your organic (non paid, non Google Maps) rankings - they are the ones improving. Ya? If so, then yes, you might expect your local results to improve as well as the local algo is influenced by organic ranking factors. Local is slow, so it's wise to always be patient. If you aren't already, try your hand at building some citations. These will go a long way too to helping move your letter position.

You can improve the local position with citations, reviews from clients, and other local SEO services to grow the position on the local map.

Schweet thanks guys. I thought it was a bit slower on the local side of things. I'll go ahead and build some citations and grab up some reviews.

With local SEO whats your definition of citations?
I have a few local sites where ive advised them to get some google reviews.
ive also set up a shortcut url for them to give to customers for yell.
is this citations?

I often use "citations" improperly. Citations, in the sense of local seo, are technically just occurrences of your business information, often specifically business name, address and phone number (NAP). Some folks say URL also get factored it. Local business directories, like Yell, or Yelp are often called citations because they are the most popular places people submit their "citation" to.
