    Is there anyway around this?

Let's say I have a plumbing contractor whose physical address is in Hollywood, CA. He only really does jobs on the Westside of Los Angeles, like Santa Monica, about 20 miles away. He wants to be listed in Google Maps/Places in Santa Monica.

Should he get some sort of 2nd address and a different phone number for that new 2nd address, or should he add a second address to his existing Google Maps/Places? Should he get one of those Mail Boxes, etc. addresses or is there another type of "virtual" address he could use? Does he need a second number?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've added a few Google places, and had this hurdle, but now I know that once you are in and verified, you can add extra service areas away from your home/office area.

So for example, you enter the real Hollywood info, and then select Westside as a service operating area.

    Thanks Irish.

Does that mean that when someone does a search in Santa Monica for Plumber, my client will show up in Maps, not the organics, maybe in the number 1 position, if he is highly Maps optimized(citations, reviews, etc)?

Places allows you to control what areas a business covers. It can be set to a radius from office location, or a manually entered boundary (I think its by zip codes)

GL with address in area X >> GL with service area in area X

    for search term 'keyword'+"area X".

it will be very difficult to rank for competetive niche.
