So in the past two days I've noticed this very odd occurrence and only on my website so far, I have not changed my title tag at all in months, haven't been penalized, and have been ranking between page1-page2 for quite some time. I'm in the SEO niche so highly competitive.

Fact:

My title is :

BrandName Keyword1 Keyword2 | Keyword1 Keyword3 | Keyword1 Keyword4

Explanation:

I search "brandname" and my title goes to:

Keyword1 Keyword4: BrandName Keyword1 Keyword2 | Keyword1 Keyword 3

No where in my title tag do I have ':' and having it move my brand name in my title was very odd indeed. When I click through to my website it goes back to normal (browser wise).

Interestingly enough if I search...

Keyword1 Keyword3

then my websites title is how it should be.

Is this beneficial? Too soon to tell.. Apologies for not being able to show my website as it brings the money in. Hence, no chance of me publicly outing it.

They are trying to make the title useful to searchers. If Google has to do that, then obviously you need to make the title useful yourself.

Rather groundless opinion don't you think? There are other websites on page #1 with very similar titles just different layouts.

For example:

SEO Company | SEO Services Company | Brand NAME
Brandname SEO - SEO Company, The Best SEO Services
