Check this out, its a MozCast of the Domain Diversity over the past month.

    http://mozcast.com/metrics

As you'll notice in the graph domain diversity has SUNK heavily since the algo update by Google. This means the Google love is spread between fewer sites.

If you click on the menu for "daily big 10" you'll also notice that the "Whales" (Amazon's of the world, the 1% so to speak) are also seeing golden times.

What does this forecast for me? I expect that this will persist over the next few weeks (as Google drags its heels in order to drive small fish into PPC) up until the point where Panda is updated.

Then all hell will probably break loose. I honestly expect this Panda to be big. But I also expect it to break up the big sites' hold as well. Whatever it does it will probably increase diversity. This, in August makes sense because it gives the BIG BOYS a chance to see their droppings and budget ahead for an increase in THEIR Chirstmas season PPC in the next Quarter. Because large companies can't allocate spending mid-quarter, so by shaking them up at the end of one quarter you make then budget PPC for the next quarter... which is the biggest quarter, Christmas season essentially.

Yes, its all about money. Squeeze the little fish now, then squeeze the Whales before Christmas.

And if you check again Domain Diversity has taken yet ANOTHER nose dive this past day. Fewer and fewer sites rank for ALL the keywords. Can't last.

Guess its all niche dependent, but yes, high authority domains can take care of most keywords without needing new site that appear and disappear.

Google puts a lot of trust into authority.
Big, old, proven websites have a lot of authority in the eyes of Google, so it all makes sense.

Plus, big players turn big money, and a (large) portion of it rubs on Google, so it makes additional sense :D

Well of course they want to wait until the end quarter. Why eat up all the money now and not have any later to use?

What does moz have to do with Google loving sites? I like big sites at the top because I don't have to worry about some junk affiliate content. For shopping, I just go straight to amazon

They won't hurt the big boys, they're so tied in together. I work in the Bay Area in an industry that works with Silicon Valley business, they ALWAYS have meetings between the Google and other large companies like Amazon, Yelp Etc. They're just using the "Authority" excuse to squeeze more money for PPC, they won't touch the other big companies.
