Google Keyword Tool Tool - building my own

Greetings,


I would like to build my own tool that uses the data from Google's Keyword Tool, just like Market Samurai, SEMRush and a multitude of other Google scrapers and tools do.


I understand that Google offers a paid API for their Adwords platform, and I guess that Keyword Tool data might be a part of this--presumably this is where SEMRush and the high end tools would get their data from.


There are also some lower end tools however that ask you to put your Google account details in order to get Keyword Tool data--do you have any idea how these tools work?


Are they pure scrapers direct from the Keyword Tool itself or do they go through an intermediate server?


Any input and guidance from you would be much appreciated!

The tools that make you put in account info are scraping the data directly from Google's keyword tool. I'd also be shocked if SEMRush and similar services are actually paying for the data through the API rather than just scrape it but I guess it is possible.

A while back Google revoked access to the Adwords api to a huge number of people probably because they were using it to get the keyword data and not actually manage an Adwords account. So it's a lot harder to get approved for the API now. It also is very expensive if you plan to have a high volume of requests and because it is hard to get API approval making your customers use their own API key could prove difficult.

I say scrape it.

You have no idea what you're getting into. Google's API is too expensive and to scrape the keyword tool requires a modification every 2-3 days on your program when Google updates. That's pretty much why Market Samurai and others are almost going out of business.

Depending on what exactly you want to do with the Adwords keyword tool then you are in for some major, major fucking headaches - those Adwords wankers do some insane javascript stuff that is phenomenally difficult to get around. Not for the faint of heart!

From my experience, all keyword tools are very bad at showing you correct data. Even the actualy google keyword tool has given me nothing but garbage.

I've found it's best to filter all keywords through an adwords campaign. First create a list of thousands of possible keywords by using various keyword tools, generators, your own ideas, if its a local business then various cities, zipcodes, states...etc. Make a huge list.

Then run an adwords campaign on them and see what gets you the most impressions, clicks, conversions...etc.

Costs money and takes a while to do, but it's the only accurate way I've been able to get any sorts of meaningful statistics on keywords that are actually relevant. From the 100,000 keywords i thought about targeting, i can figure out which have the most impressions, best type of customers, how competitive they are and so on.

Can you tell me if your tool works after the google changed its keyword suggestion tool

I had tools that I used for my own use, and then sold them. Over time the API rules got crazy, and it was difficult to keep up with the scraping changes. They purposely will change formats so you have to constantly update your scraping formats. Eventually I gave up on my own tools.
