Google Keyword Tool Question

When you search for a keyword i.e. "a long tailed keyword", does the global monthly search volume represent people searching for the keyword within quotes to make it exact?

Does it mean they are searching for


As opposed to just typing

if i understand correctly what you are asking - to get the data you are requesting...

you actually use the drop down menu located above the results and to the right to toggle between broad searches and exact searches...

hope that makes sense...

also from running tests im kinda thinking these results are based on the google network and not just the google.com portal...

Cheers but thats not what I mean. I mean is the data returned based on the user searching google but making the search exact by putting it between quotation marks?

For example typing in google make money blackhat returns a lot more results than "make money blackhat", does the google tool return the amount of searches for the exact keyword - "make money blackhat" ?

the google keyword tool will return the number of searches based on broad keyword searches and exact keyword searches results but you have to select which results you want to be shown by using the drop down menu as i described in my original post...

so i guess if your using the google keyword tool without selecting exact from the drop down menu and using the default broad term search - the results you are getting are not for exact search... but it will display exact searches if you follow my initial instructions...

sorry if i this isnt what you want i must be misinterpreting what your asking, it is monday morning after all and i am running on very little sleep right now...

haha OP, I understand what you are asking. As far as i know, an exact match means they searched it without quotes but with exactly the same phrase. broad means a similar phase.

Silversten is right, it's taken from someone typing in without quotes. So in your example it would be someone typing in a long tailed keyword as opposed to "long tail keyword".

Exact means that they typed in the 3 words: 1) make 2) money 3) blackhat and only those 3 words in that exact order with or without quotes.

As for local or global, this refers to the country they were searching from. The local default is US, but you can change this in the drop-down menu to see the local search volume for your particular country.
