Hi, I have a niche site, a specific category of wine, it gets about 40,500 monthly searches(broad) and 18,000 searches(EXACT). I'm #3 on Page 1 of Google right below nextag.com and the main brand site that sells this type of wine. What's confusing me is why am I averaging only about 20 visitors a day. I thought I would at least get 100.

Is there something wrong with my logic? Do I really need to be on the top 2 to get that many visitors? Please Help. Thanks.

It's because of the main brand site which is ranking above your site. If I want to purchase any product or to find information about a product, I most likely click the product's official site.

Like @cyberzilla said.

You need to pay attention to the websites above you. Specially if they have sitelinks.

consider the intent of the keyword, if they're looking specifically for the brand site then even you outrank them they would likely get more visitors.

Maybe change your site to a review site. Talk about the robustness of the wine, it's excellent bouquet, or some such. Post links to deals on case lots, etc. Have a discussion area so visitors can post remarks. ( Excellent way to get user generated content. :) )

Did you check Google Insights? Although it is probably true that people googling this are looking for the main site, it might also be a keyword where the Adwords numbers are skewed by Christmas and it doesn't get the same traffic all year long. If you check "wine" in insights it shows a spike at Christmas so I would assume the same is true with a particular brand. Adwords shows the average of a year's searches.
