I reckon sites like these have been "bookmarked" and watched for ages.
The fact that BHW has an alexa rank in the 500's shows how popular/talked about it is - for a site like this to have an alexa rank in the 500 is pretty high to me and I bet google would have definately kept one eye on here.
Do they care, of course not - 5 year olds pocket change for penny sweets.

I think you have LESS chance of a 'google slap/sandbox/whatever' if you are actually ranking top-10 WITH ADSENSE
Just say you rank #1 for 'buy viagra' and are making 1000$ a day with adsense... That means Google is making money off you too. In the end, if you have valuable content and are not tricking people into clicking your ads, then you have nothing to worry about.
Simple as that.
