Yeah. If you really don't want them know what you're up to, don't use their code on your site. They'll get referrer information from your visitors, etc. etc.
Even if you go through say target websites analytics they can't track how the backlinks are made. Therautically it is possible for them to get that data thru analytics, like say, getting the link from forum, google checking the outgoing link from X domain forum. there are million forums and sites to track that way. bots are not that fast for this type of filtering. that is the reason they need manual review you know.

Hmmmmmm...well i think google webmaster tool is just to let google know that these particular backlinks are mine...others are not and you block/report unwanted backlinks. so your competitors cannot spam your website. More of, it is less beneficial for users than Google. because it can let google know each and everything you are up to....

What about fonts, jquery, +1 buttons, Captcha!, search boxes loading logo image, iframed youtube video's, safebrowsing.
Don't think they'll actually track you dropping links though.

I was attending a meeting of few black hat people yesterday!
There was a person who sounded good but not enough, rest all others were crap or I can say newbies..
One of them said Google is tracking ip address of each backlink, to check who is creating the backlink and is it is legitimate or not?
I dont know if this is true, so I thought to ask over here, hope someone knows about this and someone can pass on his comments..
If this is true that means we need to use proxies always while creating backlinks?
and how the hell Google is going to know what is the IP, if we are posting articles using AMR, or using Senuke etc..
My only concern is, if this is true? then that means we should always use proxies to create backlinks?
Any comment or thoughts are most welcome..
a) It's not possible to track internet IP.on many sites. They don't keep a record and Google aren't omnipresent
b) I think Google ARE keeping an eye on INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES (The other IP) for c&d orders and plagirism checks and such like. Maybe the guy got confused - or more like was just talking out of his ass.

Well, they can do that but they are doing it on illegal way ! Because they clearly says that they do not catch any data from websites which runs adsense or adwords, but no one knows what else could adsense script do besides just tracking visits.
But yeah, they could do it, but i don't think they manually check every backlink lol, they would need like whole China population to check each and every backlink, there are like 100000000 of backlinks posted every day

Google doesn't track backlink originating IP on its own, but take a look at following scenario. Let's say you decide to put link on 10 Blogger sites and they run analytics.
Now, G knows you went to 10 specific sites. Next time webbot scrapes those pages, they see changes on them and they can correlate those changes with url in backlink and ip that visited those sites at specific time. Using plain old data mining you can uncover lots of things, trust me. And since they have a large amount of traffic data on their disposal, they can have some pretty good revelations.
Using chrome or toolbar only makes the guessing more precise.

I'm a fan of chromium myself, it's the open source project that chrome is based on but with less of the google monitors
if you use either then make sure you go into the settings and click on under the hood then uncheck all the options under privacy, such as "Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors"
since each of those features is a ping to google to let them know more about what your doing

I use Google chrome and same IP on blog comments (manual) never had a problem.
But The other day G deindexed a PDLs "blog" aged domain within 2 days of adding a link..l made me think wtf? IP range put under manual review? How else could that happen.... Reported for tier 2 links?
