I always wondered why Google didn't start their own worldwide eCommerce shop. Imagine their search engine, combined with all the Android smartphones, ads and their own online shop. It would be such a powerful and lucrative construct.

I know, right? That's smart.
But they were probably jealous of Facebook's crazy success and thought they could top that 100%.

Yes, but the concept of Google+ just wasn't good. In my opinion they didn't ask themselves the fundamental question; Why should someone who uses Facebook use Google Plus? But also Facebook is slowly dying. Its simply not attractive anymore...maybe only for advertiser, but not for normal user or page administrator.

Still, FB has a long way to go IMO. They're just too big. A giant.
And I agree about G+, could've been handled better/smarter. Oh well.
There will be new social networks anyway.

It's not that easy, you need the physical infrastructure and logistics to really compete on a large scale. Amazon has over 700 own distribution centers, thousands of trucks, several dozen cargo planes, they are basically disrupting the whole logistics industry worldwide, no matter if land, sea or air.

I wonder why it never made impact despite the number of users, or it seems people weren't spending time there at all.

Somehow I still think what that poster observed is true, Google has more of what is needed than Amazon, imagine the massive traffic, very very targeted traffic
 
I would love to see Goofle dead because everything they do they do it with monopoly idea. They hate competition they are evil and aggressive company
 
Better Google should shutdown itself. Security bug? Silly reason. Reason is Google couldn't complete with Facebook. First of all, Why it should compete?
 
I'm not shocked, considering how shit Google+ interface was/is.
 
After this news turned viral, major news sites have removed G+ share and follow buttons from their web pages.
 
Google had Orkut first...it did quite well in some countries until FB started dominating. They shut down Orkut and came up with Google Plus which never really picked up. However, I don't think they are totally going to give up on social networking, may come up with something unique and useful.

They did. Except they sell referrals and get paid commissions.
