I'm monitoring this for some time now. It's happening across multiple posts on my whole website. "How to do X" is ranking for "How to do Y" and the other way around. I'm using YARPP to display 5 related posts at the bottom. I'm not 100% sure, but I have a strong feeling that this could be the issue. What do you think? This is really holding back my website, so any idea is very much welcome!

I had a similar problem before but with countries.
I make a post "best X in Canada" and then add related posts like "best X in the UK" or "best X in India" and google screws up everything like it ranks "best X in the UK" for keyword "best X in India". Had to delete related posts :(.

Yes, could be that. Some time blog archive page starts to rank for the keyword. This happens due to page authority being higher.

Thanks, this makes sense. Do you think it will resolve itself over time?

Google has issues with filtering the correct content sometimes and there is nothing much you can do about it.

Okay, thanks for your input.

Interesting, thank you. So, you would say removing related posts solved the issue?

Can't say for sure. If you add more content about x and about and silo them by interlinking posts about x and similarly for y and submitng the post for reindexing via gsc url inspection. You may be able to.

I had this too, I don't know how to fix it

Try to make a good backlink to this page with an anchor

or make more internal backlinks to the page
