Ive been real careful with my daughter online. I set up here google accounts and facebook and other accounts. I made sure they all reported her as being 20 years of age and made sure she knew if she signed up for anything to change her birthdate.
Today I walked her through signing up to adsence so she could try out IM. When we got back from dinner, google emailed her saying they discovered she was under 18.
They didnt ask for her SSI number, so I have no idea how they came to the conclusion she was under 18. We googled her name and came up with eveyone BUT her. I guess she will have to use my number.

So don't use Google. I don't... Aside from gaming their search results.
 
I actually had the same thing happen to me and I have literally know idea how they knew.
 
They have access to the government databases. They also have facial recognition on photos so if she had any photos uploaded to facebook or google plus they match the face with the name as well as the location of your IP and reference it with the government database to determine the actual age.
 
google is a monopoly on everything...google is evil....don't be evil...ha...lol...they are data hoers and they are evil...
 
Google is monopoly but Google is stupid as hell and can be manipulated. They can't stop us. That's the attitude.
 
They probably have a database like those people search engines out there, but may be with more details and accuracy. If those people search engines can return results that revealed how many people, their names, and their ages live together at a specific address, then probably they can do the same thing.

Ahh the power of the web. Everything is xtremely accessible these days.
 
Well the database thing may be right and valid. However how the hell did they get access to that? Does government allow it?
 
What else do they know? Yesterday I got an email from Google telling me that the name I used for my G+ account was not the same name that people in real life call me. They gave me 4 days to change it to the common name that people call me.
That account was setup at a coffee shop on wi-fi. Linked to a private domain with name and address blocked and used that domains email address.
 
They have everything they needed. They are ruling the internet. Might be they are giving huge donations to government to get access to their database.
 
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Also...Occam's Razor...your daughter must have put in her real birthday somewhere connected to a G account, or someone else "ratted" her real info and identity to G.

Even if we're totally careful about our identities, those around us might not be as inclined to giving us the same level of protection as they'd give themselves; loose lips sinking ships and all that.
 
its very easy to verify someones identity without a ssn if you have access to the right database. you can verify their age and if they are using a phony name.
