Hi, everyone.

I tend to try things out and share the results found here which I believe can help us.

So, here is it.

There is a keyword that covers geographical searches.

Let's say, "Top Starbucks Alternatives".

For a geographical search, one can write on "the Top Starbucks Alternatives in Canada".

Having done this myself - the geographical version, I have discovered that Google prioritises pages with lots of backlinks to the main targeted keyword.

Meanwhile, I mistakenly did the same search on Yahoo powered by Bing and discovered that I rank #1 cause the article is well optimised while on Google I rank #5 - the first is not even a search for my geographical area - but they've got a lot of backlinks.

As awkward as it sounds. I recently saw a page that ranked #4 for only a non-youtube video with a disclaimer text while the real page articles are below - all because they've built backlinks to it.

It seems Google can easily be tricked or are they just favouring only Backlinked content without taking cognisance of the real value to the audiences...

It's just bad that Bing does not get all the hypes Google does.

Well, people in my location used say "google it" Instead of "search it" So no way to get that much traffic from bing even if you rank in the first position.

It's good to know about the backlinks. It looks like google has gone away from content is king and can now be tricked. At least until their next update.

Yep same here. For one of my main keyword ranking for bing is #3 and in google it is #12. But off course traffic from google is paying my bills.

You're are Mate. Gracefully, 90% of my earnings comes from it. Google & YouTube. So, they're super helpful.

Unfortunately, no choice, you've got to dance to their beats.

Nice find. If Google's primary ranking factor is backlinks, what do you think Bing's one is?

Backlinks are needed for ranking and Bing uses them too. However, Google has 10x better algorithms for rankings than Bing. You don't see a lot of manipulation in Bing simply because Bing has no market share. If it was the opposite, Bing would be flooded with shitty websites too that try to manipulate backlinks in their favor.

That makes sense and on the other way round, don't they condem Blackhat?

You must be joking, right? :) There's a lot of manipulation in Bing, and they do have a pretty good market share in the US, Canada and some parts of Europe. You can make some good bucks ranking in Bing's top 3 results (easier and faster than in Google).

No, I am not joking. Of course there's gonna be manipulation in Bing too, what I meant is, in comparison to Google, it's nothing. And if you consider 10% market share as "good", then sure.

in my personal experience, bing uses backlinks to rank websites as well :)
