Ok guys,

Just thinking a little out side of the box here but i personally do not think this instant search is going to be here to stay.

That being said, i believe there is quite a big oppertunity here to rank and get traffic for "nearly keywords" than ever before

For instance,

who here thinks they can rank pretty weel for the keyword eba or even eb

See where i am going with this?

If the person is fairly slow at typing, and you make sure your keyword page title stands out then i believe its a sensible thing to conclude that your going to start getting traffic from people who intended on searching for ebay.

I am sure if people give this some thought on how to develop this idea further then they will be able to get some great results

makes sense..

I'm going to say no

keep in mind that the result for "eb" isn't the best SEO'd site for "eb" it's "ebay" - as google thinks that's what you're typing towards (look for the grey letters)

if you change course and put in "ebi" you end up with a financial dictionary as it thinks you're going towards "ebitda"

if you change to "ebiq" you end up with a media and marketing analytics company, as it thinks you're now typing in "ebiquity"

HOWEVER

Google predictive search has its quirks

Look at all the funnies that pop up from it

Code:

If one could hijack this, so that "eb" leads towards something like "www.eb-free-viagra-and-credit-checks.com" instead of ebay, one could see profit.

i think it would work, reminds me of those ripoff sites like mysace.com
but targeted more towards lazy people than clumsy people

I don't like Google Instant at all. I'm not sure why most people in other IM forums think that it is the greatest thing on earth. It is probably because a lot of gurus have nothing better to talk about...

It's important to note that many people still type by looking at their keyboards, especially the older folks.

They're not going to be looking at the screen until they finish typing (mistyping) their search.

Does anyone suffered from it? Especially you site focus on longtail kw.

Yes... Its a definite long tail hit.

a search for "pink r" displays "pink ribbon" results and steals traffic and acts like a catchall for all other "pink ribbon" long tail keywords like "pink ribbon fleece" or "pink ribbon jewelry" etc... Unless you rank for the short tail words google suggests you will lose long tail traffic for sure.

The question is how much loss now and where will it equalize once searchers get used to the new feature. So far, most non-tech people I know don't like it and turned it off. I know most webmasters hate it. I hope google decides it was a mistake and removes it, but I'm not planning on that happening.

I am hearing from my SEM/PPC contacts that CTR still effects quality score in adwords and there are reports of higher CPCs as a result. This makes it the second time this year google screwed online retailers to make a quick buck. They really do make microsoft look like complete amateurs in the field of "Doing Evil". I hope this Christmas and following Q1 the media starts pointing out google's effects on the unemployment rate as more businesses close/downsize because of online sales losses. I used to be a fanboy of Google's... I hate them now. They are no friend to small business owners or retailers in general. I hope the FTC starts regulating their policies. Google needs an intervention. It is in the public's best interests to do so.

^^ that's kinda how i feel. People were ALL over microsoft for windows in the 90's, why the hell hasn't anyone stood up and gotten in Gxxgle's way?

before you know it, they'll be running the world.

I'm not a microsoft fanboy either. But they are the lessor of two evils now. I think google has a lot more impact and influence in the economy than Microsoft. For example... imagine being a google DBA and having access to Google's near realtime search logs. This Q4 they can know before the companies do about which publicly traded retailers are doing well or poorly based on traffic sent to websites. They can influence the winners and losers. They could invest in companies or short them with this inside information. It is not technically "insider trading" since the companies themselves don't know this information in the same "nearly realtime" way but it is a reason to keep watch on Google's activities in regard to favoritism and damaging investment tactics.

The suggestion box covers the first few results for me. You gotta rank on the number 5 or something :)
