Hi Guys Please help me with this issue.

I need to google index my Posts like domainname[dot]com/TITLE OF THE POST

But google indexing my pages like

    domainname[dot]com/tag/online/page/8/
    domainname[dot]com/tag/fast/
    domainname[dot]com/2010/06/page/8/

    Some pages are indexing

    domainname[dot]com/Title of the post

I set Permalinks Custom Structure as /%postname%/
    I Included Sitemap

    Can anyone clarify my doubt.

What you are seeing looks like your archive and your tags being indexed.

I would recommend getting a hold of an SEO plugin to help you optimize your stuff. SEO Ultimate I think is one of the best and gives you lots of options.

After that though, it will take some time for google to reindex your pages. Don't expect it to happen overnight.

I have exactly the same problem. I am using All in One SEO Pack with wordpress MU and it seems to work fine (I see meta description and keywords in my homepages, generated tags on the posts pages and posts permalinks works as it should domainname[dot]com/post title), however I have these problems:

    1. Google don't show websites descriptions (as a descriptions I get a part of my newest content, like there won't be any meta description, but titles works ok)
    2. Almost all indexed pages are tags pages (only ~5% of all indexed pages are posts).

All blogs are under subdomains and they are all new, so it is probably not time lack problem, while google finds out news meta tags...

Also note.. it is very dangerous to set your permalinks to just postname like that. You are very likely to generate a duplicate post and it really messes up WP when you do that. It is a good idea to perhaps add the post_id at the end. So you have something like %postname%-%post_id% .. so you would end up with 'Something-Like-This-1'

But in every wordpress seo guide...you will see they are saying you to change your permalink to %postname%

Actually I am also facing the same problem...But i am not disabling tags because since those tags are only giving traffic from google..but from my posts I am hardly getting traffic.

    Any suggestion???

i would also check your sitemap as well and see how the links are being submitted to google. You could have them set up right on the site. but if the xml program is pulling the the real links this is why you are seeing them listed in google that way.

just an idea to check happend to me before with a joomla site.

If you are using the All In One SEO plugin for wordpress (or any of the other SEO plugins I'm guessing), there should be an option to add the "noindex" code to tag, category, or archive pages.

For those who don't know, the page-specific noindex HTML looks like this:

    Code:
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex" />
Just go into the options of your SEO plugin and choose to not let the search engines index these pages.

Also,MisterGemini is right about not just have a /%postname%/ permalink structure... duplicate titles an be a problem.

This is why I recommended SEO Ultimate. It handles your canonical meta for these areas.

As the other poster mentioned about setting up noindex, you can do that with SEO Ultimate as well for these areas.

With both methods, you are certain to eliminate them, and save your site from potential duplicate content penalties.
