Google images traffic monetization

Hi all,
I am not new in this business, having websites for more than 5 years using mostly adsense for revenue,
but never experienced with traffic coming from Google images.

So I have a website that has lots of unique images as content, and i see in webmaster tools that 90% of the traffic is from images:


and I was wondering - does this mean that those users are clicking on my image on google-images, but they are not getting to my actual page, right?
And is this is the case - how can I monetize this traffic?
I sometimes see on google-images that when I click on the image it adds some kind of text on top of it - that tells the viewer to visit the page to see the image.
Is this the only way? does it work?

Regardless of how exactly they are viewing the website right now, you should be able to setup a redirect so if they're referred by Google, it takes them to the page with the image instead of directly to the image itself.

the redirect should only happen in some of the cases, I mean if the page loads the image it should show it.
Also, if it redirects to the page all the time - won't google images think it's not an image eventually?
Is there any special instructions on how to do this?

hi, looking for similar answers, the number of people hitting visit page for me is only around 5%, 4000+ people a day hit view image and don't come to the site . But if you redirect or dynamically watermark, you will get a penalty in google images and be lowered in image serp. If another site has your image then the image will stay in the roughly the same place but it will link to the other site. Google have also said there is also now a manual penalty for redirecting as they see it as cloaking.
