I have one competitor who has dominated this overlooked part of SEO. There is probably some blackhat going on to with this dominance of image SEO and me a lack of understanding. Can anyone point me towards the basics of image SEO. I am really bad at it, I cant seem to get any images in the first 3-5 rows even.

I have tried taking the image and fully keywording it out prior to download and adding it from different platforms. Is it the alt text or something else?

Instead of the image popping from my money page, I rather it pop from a off page that i can experiment on. My money page is ranking page one so i am not touching it again unless it tanks via a google update.

Exactly what are you backlinking? As any newb would I only backlink to the homepage to power up everything ...inner pages. I understand the other stuff though adding schema can be painful.

Optimize file names with keywords, use alt text, compress images for fast loading, and add structured data. Hosting images on your own site also helps boost SEO.

Also alt text, compress the images size, use webp format for better performance Imo
 
You are correct that Alt Text is crucial, but it's only one of four signals. The overall Context is the biggest factor.

Context is King: Google primarily determines the image's relevance from the surrounding text, the H1/Title of the page, and the caption immediately below the image. Your image needs to be fully embedded in a contextually relevant paragraph to rank.

Naming Convention: You must optimize the File Name (e.g., best-widget-review.jpg instead of IMG001.jpg). The file name is the simplest clue Google gets.

Off-Page Experiment: To experiment safely, publish your image on an established, high-authority Web 2.0 platform (like Medium or Tumblr) with an extremely detailed caption and a descriptive URL.
 
Context of the image vs the whole page on which it is hosted is AS important as the technical image SEO aspects

The most basic knowledge is to name your images using keywords and remember to add image captions related to the keywords your customers are searching for.
