Google image search - Why you may have lost traffic

While this plugin is great and a solution for my image sites, it creates a new problem, starting to see scraped images show up darkened with text on them :\

What scraper do you use? If the scraper sets local referrers it should work :)

When I try to share/like on facebook a picture from my website, on my facebook wall appears the link and insteed of the image a blank spot. Anyone has the same problem? I also have a problem sharing the images on pinterest.

You need to whitelist twitter, pinint, facebook etc on your referrer list and it should work.

All the websites that you mention are on the whitelist,, but still not working. (with http and without - if that counts) Any other tip?

Could you PM me the htaccess file you have in your WP root folder? Have you upgraded to v 1.3.2, btw?

Thanks for your great plugin. I installed it to one of my low traffic site. It works just fine. I will wait some time to see what will be with indexing. I have another site which is combination of classic *.html design and wp blog and around 10k of pictures. Do you have any idea how to reuse plugin in this case.

Once again, thanx for great work.

I'm a newly registered user and could not contact BigBong directly so I'll try it this way: I got the plugin for latest WP / Installed from WP Plugin page. I must have missed something. 1.] I did a Google image search as usual and the image was still there. 2.] I CLICKED the image to bring me to my post and my post was gone. [page was there; template too. POST itself was gone.] 3.] I deactivated plugin and it re-appeared. BHW will not let me show my .htaccess but i'll try to put SOME in here that won't trip the 'newbie spam.' Here were my settings: # BEGIN imaguard RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} MYURL [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(jpg|png|jpeg|gif)$ SHOWIMAGEDEFAULTPATH [R=301,NC,L] # END imaguard What did I do wrong? Thank you. What did I do wrong? Thank you.

Hi!

What settings do you have form Imaguard in WP?

Thanks for responding. I THOUGHT you might need those. Let me go check. Meantime, if it helps, here is what the address is after I click the Google link that says "View original image" and while the image shows at my website, my post is not --> MYWEBSITE/show-image/?img=/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/MYIMAGE.gif Sometimes an image shows up just as a standalone; MYWEBSITE/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/MYIMAGE.gif I hope I can attach a screengrab of my settings and you can tell me what I am doing wrong or if you have another way [privately] I can contact you, I'd be glad to let you have site access. More information: I'm also using timbthumb and when I click [even locally] a thumbnail .gif leading to article, blank post. [I have not noticed it with .jpg/.png] ALSO RECENT posts plugin/widget on the right hand side...content disappears and is replaced with '-1' and when i clcik on '-1' i get a division by zero error on the Imaguard plugin atop my theme [line 24 if i remember correctly]. example to blank post: MYWEBSITE/wp-content/themes/MYTHEME/scripts/timthumb.php?src=PATHTOGIF&w=80&h=80&zc=1&q=100

That's nuts. For a company that gets so furious when people try to game them ? and releases updates which screw over legit users in order to stop the black-hat brigade ? to absolutely stiff people in this way is a hot load of BS. There is really no justifying this and I'd be keen to see what people can come up with as a way to stop Google from doing it. It's taking without giving credit when you boil it right down.

I see that the new plugin update has this option "[BETA functionality - use with caution] Checking this box will forward direct / non white listed hits on images in redirect mode to the first post the image was used on instead of the preview page." and I just checked the box.
I think for my website is better if I check that box, but what is different? I know that it won't redirect me to the show-image link but to the post, which is much better for me. Why is there " use with caution " are there any side effects?

There's nothing nice about it..

hahaha.. The new google image search is nice for the users i like it... the new Looks very userfriendly and easy to us with just keywords arrows.. i love it.. dont get offended i know most people are losing there traffic and revenue sorry but the change has to come in either way so Make up a new strategy and Go for it ;)

First of all, sorry for the late reply. I have been very busy and I have lost completely track of where we were or what the problem was. If you send me an email with your URL and a short recap of the problem (and if you are willing also WP login) I will have a look sometime tomorrow (it's 03:39 AM here and my brain stopped working a few hours back). I will PM you my email shortly.

Only that I wrote that into the latest version in the middle of the night. The redirect is not perfect, but if you go to the Imaguard plugin page on wordpress.org (plugins-search-imaguard-support) someone has posted a more elegant version which I will incorporate in the next version. Meanwhile you just need to change 1 line of code.

The guy selling stolen PCs in the parking lot outside your local Walmart also offers a user-friendly service. Low prices, quick deal, personal service.

Doesn't mean you should appreciate it. In fact you should boycott it. Google is stealing 1) images and 2) bandwidth. And it is not a change "you should get used to". This is one battle Google will lose at one point, sooner or later (probably later). They lost the Google book scanning thing and had to agree to a fairly large settlement for exactly the same reason. They seem to think that any thing they can get their hands on they can copy and distribute online. World doesn't work that way.

I too am loosing traffic from google image search. I just want to know if this plugin is safe and will not affect our serp? btw, there's a petition at change d o t org for google to stop hotlinking images, not sure if it will get through.
