Google is planning on fighting the Mexican drug cartels

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/19/googles-drug-war-vs-mexic_n_1685674.html?utm_hp_ref=technology

I really do not understand why so many techies think they can fight a criminal organisation that has a ton of money and resources, with a reach that already extends hundreds of cities in the United States, especially in a state like California where google is located.

While I understand your point of view, it's always worth trying and we're talking about Google here, not Joe's Bakery in Time Square NY. I'm pretty sure they can come up with something.

If they think they can do it, then more power to them.

Our government has been shipping small arms to the mexican drug cartels for YEARS!, this is all an "act" to attack our right to bare arms. Are military is now under UN control. This is no secret they openly tell people about it. So now that the cartels have the fire power they (politicians) can then blame the USA bordering states for shipping guns to mexico, this leads to strong gun control then eventually (what we are seeing today) "the peaceful disarming of the world" aka american citizens.

Talk about one evil trying to kill the other.. and as part of this, I won't be surprised if Google asks for street surveillance cameras and what not. adios privacy!

Fucking Google, leave the cartels alone. Drugs make this world go round.

Yes well this is what power does to some people and organizations.

They get to feel so powerful and mighty and start to think that they can beat down anything.

Wow..Schmidt better increase the security to his own home...yeesh

But I give him plenty of props for taking initiative. I'm sure he wouldn't have done the same if he didn't actually go visit Mexico

The cartels don't play. They're gonna give matt cutts a columbian bow tie :D

Why are you guy's so against google stopping the drug cartels? 47,500 people have been killed in drug-related violence over there , you can hate on googles strong arm on online search but not them helping stop international crime. Epically a war that has cost sooo much lives.

I agree, I am not against it, but I really doubt their efforts will even put a dent in it. If the feds can't do it, then google won't be able to. Then again, the feds contribute to it, but thats another discussion for another day. But, you do have a valid point though.

I'm always proud that someone with stature stands up against these bastards. Instead of saying no one has a chance against drugs, I'd rather be mutilated supporting fight against them.

It's probably just PR, but if they can do it - great! They must be watching Breaking Bad.

Lovely, now anyone walking around Mexico with a Nexus S/Galaxy is going to be shot. I hate those cartels though, maybe something will come of this other than more dead innocent people. (I wouldn't count on it though.)

Easier said than done bro...have you ever been to Mexico? Google might be playing with fire here. Cartel members are missing that little part of the brain that tells you to feel sorry for a person, you know that compassion part, it's completely fucking missing from those people's brains. WE often forget who we are dealing with and we assume they're on the same frequency as us but just a little meaner....hell no, their brain structure is completely alien to us regular folk. Fucking savages.
