So I was running a movie site copying movie description from IMDB and sharing links. It is wordpress based. But within 20 days of running the site I got this notice on webmaster "Google has detected Major spam problems"....So I applied for reconsideration and removed ads and change content a bit. But the penalty was still on. Can anyone tell me how we they recover from manual penalty or it is better to move on from that site?

Lol, you can't just make a few mods to content that you've copied and expect to recover. Atleast try to spin it properly somehow and then create a site, you're not going to get anywhere just making a blatant rip off IMDB site.

Copied content, dupicate content is considered spam by google, so you need to figure out a better business model here. Add a twist to your own movie review site rather than just copying from IMDB, from a user point of view what value did it add.

re-write the copy content and then have Google manually check it

What's the big deal... As you said, the site is only 20 days old. Simply move the content to a new domain and start fresh.

You need more than 20 articles with 100% unique content on your site to get it up. Spare it to 30 days progress, and submit gg team to recovery your site every week. Dont be hassle, great contents, they will get it done. Duplicate contents is spamming feature and get panelty soon.

Don't connect your site to google webmasters tool as it is their means of easily detecting spams on your sites...

Do not connect unless you're 100% sure and confident that you have a quality website.

But most watch tv show / movie sites fetch content from IMDB and other movie portal sites. They are running very successfully. I don't see them getting banned from google for spam content.

Leave that domain and start on a new one. Make sure you don't do the same mistake again.

lol 20 days and already hit with a mass spam. You pissed someone off quite clearly. You have cloned your site put it into wmt and got slapped with the mass spam. Most likely a google bot has found your site to have duplicate content and removed it. Even if you change it because your a movie "download" site they won't index you. The best way to run them sites it to either accept you have been slapped and just advertise links on social media forums etc and hope for passive clicks or just forget about the damn thing.

Take it as a lesson learnt. Most cases it is a bugger to remove that manual penalty from experience. If you did anything "dodgy" forget it and move on. 20 days is so fast though that must t have been a straight up duplicate.

I had movie/series websites get banned because of their content but that was years ago when the movie niche was a very hot. Just make sure they're OK with the content.

Make your site significantly different from what is already available online.
