Google finally comes clean on the meta keyword tag issue

awesome - thank you I always wondered about this -even though he is probably Bshitting to keep more of the google "algorithim" a secret - the amount of BS they pass on they probably base EVERYTHING on keyword metatags (LOL)

i already mentioned this in the forum before.. i have multiple sites ranking high with no meta keywords tag at all
 
ya this is something many people have figured out for a while now. Whats funny is so many SEO companies still focus on the keyword meta tag when it has very little relevance with Google. It's all about quality content and backlinks, not meta tags.
 
I stopped adding it like a year ago because it saves me 30 seconds on new sites. I mean it seems obvious that stuffing a small line with keywords you want to rank for would be against what Google is trying to achieve.
 
Thanks for sharing. Matt kind of takes you around the world to say simple stuff. I think most of them already realized the downfall of META tags.

I might have to do honest keyword research. Not just look at my competitions meta tags :(
 
Was thinking exactly the same thing...there must come a point where a legit technique used to measure a website's ranking is bent and twisted so far that Google decides to move on to the next technique. I suppose it's those who are first on the wagon to twist that technique who earn big bucks.

I think this was Google's plan when the introduced the voting/commenting feature about a year ago. it was kind of a flop though and easily manipulated - although anything can be.

I think the future of search rankings will lie within what the actual user deems to be the best and most relevant match for a given search. What SE does this first in an affective manner stands to gain a lot.
 
i dont believe google.. they're evil.... the other se's are still using them, so for the time being i will continue to build pages with them..

but i definitely am focusing more on title tags and content on every page after reading some of the latest info from goog..
 
The meta tags might matter if your are in a niche with very low competition. Hard to say what comes into play with the Google Algarythm. I don't really take Matt Cutts at face value either. Meta tags can't hurt you most likely, unless you are really spammy with them.
 
I don't think meta keywords or description matter at all other than what shows up under your page title in the SERPs.

Not in this case, but "in general" I more than agree with you, do not trust with Matt says :) and pay attention to exactly how he is saying it.
 
google never used meta tags. no major search engine does. that's so 1999
 
Matt Cutts is getting paid by google for talking what Google wants us to believe.

Google always try to give more important to factors which can't be easily manipulated. At present they are relying on authority backlinks because this is something which can't be easily manipulated by everyone.
However in future google will be concentrating more and more on surfer behavior when they are on a particular site. Like how long they stay on the site, their scrolling and clicking activities etc. Google is already tracking these info and will be concentrating more on the surfer activities in future.

When that happens we just have to find ways to manipulate those data. ;)

i say keep the keyword tag as an insurance because these things change all the time
