They should probably stop writing 200 page reports and focus on how they'll actually beat facebook. In theory it all looks nice but yeah.. I think this is the same as the hype that came with buzz

"Maintaining people's privacy should be your top priority."

Coming from Google, this is entertaining.

Google is a bot, not a brain, it will not succeed.

huhh, that was a pretty long read, but i had to do that as i was curious what's in Google's mind
it seems they have some good point, but what i also think if that's all, it won't be enough to convince people to change from Facebook to Google Me

anybody who doesn't want to read the whole presentation, page 212-214 sums up it
but it was pretty interesting, so don't be lazy and read the whole

OK, here's my take on Google Me.

The fact of which networking site was better had very little to do with the transition from Friendster to MySpace, and then from MySpace to Facebook. It was more about the initial userbase that the sites targeted and how that combined with some good timing that let each one overtake the other.

Google's new site seems to have some well thought out features, and they've certainly got the marketing power to let people know about it. But I don't know if a corporate giant is going to be able to add the crucial element that made each of the other sites work, which was the coolness factor. Getting the right combination of new users established in such a way that the users were able to have a "We're cooler than you" attitude was what got the other users to jump ship and move to the new network.

Regardless of whether it can become the replacement for Facebook, Google Me is certainly going to attract a huge userbase, so no matter what there will be opportunities for marketers.

Google was certainly able to oust Yahoo when they first started and Yahoo was thought untouchable, but I think that was a different set of circumstances. Only time will tell if they can really pull it off in the social networking arena.

I wouldn't trust Google me, it sounds catchy. But after hearing that Chrome monitors you I don't feel so "secure" using google.

I think this might actually work for google. Just seems like eventually facebook is going to become too spammed out like myspace, and people will eventually start looking for a new place to hang out. Google me will be patiently waiting for that to happen and take the cake.

I don't see any product "replacing" or "overtaking" FB, but rather I do think if Google identifies the RIGHT audience for Google Me then it will be a success. I don't think Google Buzz will ever replace Twitter but I found my audiences for these are different and both have great benefits. I think LinkedIn is a great network as well, and does much of what FB does, but again I have different audiences here.

If they find an audience and give them what they want it can successfully exist in the same world as FB.

Big G is too late to beat fb. Fb got the lions share. Theory put in to practice is not always perfect.
