Hi!
I've been working on a micro niche site for 1 month now and I'm doing nothing but whitehat SEO to it.
I build 1-20 backlinks a day, all manually, blog comments, forum profiles/posts, directories, press releases etc and my ranks for nearly every keyword increased every day.
Yesterday I experienced a huge drop and today it continued.

Is this most likely temporary or did I make a misstake?

Google is making me mad too my website was on first page then suddenly 1 day when i wake and check my website was not even in top 50 then again i check after some time and it was on 1st page again.......it is definitely google dance
 
You shouldn't be building 1-20 manual links a day on a one month old website. Unless you JUST started doing that. First you build all of the content over a few days time (2-3 days). Add as much new content over the next week as possible. Then start building links slowly up, and keep them consistent. If you did that, then you're probably dancing, but make sure you keep that linking consistent. If you stop for a week or so, you will likely get penalized. It happened to me on a site I didnt have enough time for.
 
I was afraid my main website got hit (even tho I only built very very very few backlinks) but I see that my rankings have returned. Was likely the g dance going on. My rankings dipped for about a week before they went back to upper first page status. I was disappointed when i first saw the dip, but once I saw myself ranking again I got motivated and I am working on even more sites that will hopefully get their traffic from social sites.
 
Just keep on building links through it, its about consistency here try add niche relevent content or keyword optimised content but other then that carry on as you are and report back

Please don't listen to this guy. No offense but you have regurgitated the same info that every other person does. There is no penalty for link bui9lding too fast or too slow or whatever, at least in my findings. A new site has no authority therefore will not rank regardless. New sites can get links really fast if you build them right. Doesnt mean you have to build them manually (which you shouldnt be doing anyways unless you want to fail miserably).

I have found that if you do massive LBing in the begginng, you can get yourself on a hold until google establishes your site. Had this happen with 3 sites no and it seems to be a 3 month hold sort of thng. However, if you do build massive shitty links than you might as well forget it. I figure why not start building from day one and let it rip, if google puts my site on hold so be it. Otherwise I would be sitting around doing nothing.

Also, I have found no evidence of google hurting rankings by stopping the production of links. I have gone a whole year without building a link to one of my sites and my site keeps rising. Hmmm.. I have unique content and have built "quality" links years ago but no evidence suggests your statement is true. Also, I did link building in the thousands of thousands of 2.0s for this site within a one month time period. This is just one example and I have many that I can name off.

Why do people suggest things without proper testing?

I can likely say that your site that was penalized for something else and your one time experience left you with the concept that it was because you stopped building links.

Keep on building links, make sure the anchor text is very diverse, with some 'click heres', etc. thrown in. You're just doing a google dance.

I agree. Me too, i keep on doing link building. :) I also use "click here" and just like your site TS, we are also dancing on serp. :D

A. Don't talk about things you obviously lack knowledge in. B. No offense, I've ranked new websites in under one month, have you? I gave the OP proper advice. I neglected to mention link diversity, keyword density, and probably could have stressed the importance of content. "No evidence suggests your statement is true". I built steady links, daily, for months and months. Ranked for competitive terms, updated my content, etc. Stopped building links for 2 weeks, and my ranks suffered HEAVILY. Want your proof? There it is, I wont screenshot it for you because you seem to know it all already. Link building is indeed secondary to content, however, do not go around saying "Don't list to this guy cause blah blah", that's ridiculous. Oh, and if you've found no evidence of google hurting your rankings by neglecting link building after building them steadily, please watch your rankings a little better. OP, what I said was indeed correct. Do not immediately hit your site with tons of links and stop. Keep things are a steady, NATURAL, stream. Keep them diverse (Web 2.0s, social bookmarks, wiki links, press releases(not alot), SB blasts to your tiers (make sure they are quality links with low outbound links and a good PR. PR 2+ is good). It's good to have some no-follow AND do follow links to your website as well, so things look natural. Good luck!
 
There's something called link velocity. A 'legit' page will have a somehow natural looking link velocity, means the number of links linking to the domain can of course differ, but should not go from 100+ indexed links for 2 weeks to 10 the next month after.

The whole 'keep building links' stuff is actually quite weird, as basically anybody ranking will do it anyway. Just take into consideration how a 'natural' link profile looks and try to be similiar. Drip stuff instead of blasting out at once, keep some regular updates to your properties and use natural anchors such as click here, visit this site, brand named anchors and so on.

To SmyleAtmyWins: Personally I have several sites that are updated daily and on which I paused linkbuilding for 1-2 weeks as well. None of them suffered. And not pissy niches but rather global casino related keywords. Updating your site will make it easier to stick in my opinion. To think that a site drops right after stopping linkbuilding for a week or two isn't appropriate for me.
 
If you do Quality Backlinks then you don't worry about Google Dance.
 
you can check in your google webmaster tools and go to find if there is an email from google about the unnatural links alert.
if you get the alert from google, your site may be hit by the unnatural links.

Depends on your site, depends on a variety of things really. *Your site will most likely drop if you do not keep a steady stream of links coming in.* That should clear up any mis-communication.

Agree on that, definately. Personally I try to dripfeed as much as possible when doing any sort of linkbuilding, no matter automated or manual property creation done by VAs. Times over that a 1k bookmark blast instant moved you to page2 ^^

That being said, I'm also quite confident about content being updated regularly will be a big help to stick your rankings. Give the baby something to crawl!
 
There really isn't a "Google Dance" anymore. We used to think of the "Google Dance" when there was a date and time when they started updating the search results. It would last a few days and then calm down a bit.

Now, there is no Google Dance anymore. They're constantly updating the search results. There are algorithm updates, like the Penguin update and the Panda update(s).

I always find it funny when it one sentence people say they are doing nothing but white hat SEO and in the next sentence they say the build links.

Building any form of links to your site violates webmaster guidelines and as such isn't white hat SEO.

In your case what has more than likely happened is that the honey moon period is over. Google gives new domains a bit of extra love for the first week to a month of its life. After that it will drop like a stone and at some point in the coming couples of month it will re-establish itself in a more solid position in the SERPS.

What you should do is carry on like nothing has happened, pretend you haven't checked the ranks and things are still moving up. You will be rewarded for this in due time - the worst possible thing to do is stop what you are doing.

This is typical behavior of any new domain that I see on a weekly basis - checking rankings for any new domain in the first 3 months of its life are counter productive in my opinion as they are so volatile so not only do you waste time by checking them, you cause yourself unnecessary stress/worry and start questioning yourself and a lot of webmaster just stop what they are doing all together when they see huge drops which in itself is a huge red flag for Google.

Keep your head in the sand and carry on doing what your doing, expect to see it back in an established spot sometime in November as a rough estimate.
 
This kind of huge drop seems like the sandbox effect and is temporary
