I started a new method of link building, and within 24 hours a website I made about 9 months ago and hadn't done much link building on, I updated it with better on page seo, better articles, ect. then started building links. Within 24 hours I went from not in top 200 to #8 for one of my keywords and #12 for another. Now it seems I'm jumping around from #10-#290 all day today. Is this just a Google dance until they decide where to place me? And also should I keep building more diverse links so it seems natural?

Yes it is a dance and Yes you should buy more diverse links.

Building more links would protect you from future link devaluation.

Thanks for confirming what I thought, just wanted a second opinion. Time to get to work ha

How long does the dancing usually last?

i did not build links to my site from past 2 years now after seeing this i am thinking whether to build backlinks or not.Want to follow exact strategy

In search engine optimization, Google Dance is an out-dated slang term used to describe the period of time in which Google used to rebuild its rankings, and as a result of this rebuilding, rankings of Web sites on Google's SERP may fluctuate in order during a several day period. The "Google Dance" would happen anywhere up to 36 times per year, however in 2003 Google begun updating its index on a weekly basis, which all but eliminated the Google Dance.

I thought the google dance was because google has 1000's of servers all over the world and when doing a search, your results are return from just one server, searching a day later may bring you results from another server thus making your sites SERPS different. this then settles one all the severs have collected the data and brought it all together. But maybe I'm wrong?
