Excuse the question if its been talked about but is there a dance going on right now? I had a keyword which is my money keyword for about a year, I had the top spot for it for years. So kinda hoping there is a dance going on that I could regain it or should I assume the worst?

it toally depends on many factors ...

what's the url . .what keyword phrase ... what backlinking strategy etc.
