Hey guys,

My website was ranking on the bottom of first page/top of the second page for 4 keywords and some long tails, but now it's nowhere to be seen in the SERPS (at least not in the top 150) since the past 5 days for any of the 4 keywords. The domain is 1 year old, and it's a thin affiliate site with 4 or 5 pages of content. I was building links few days before the slap/dance occurred. Whats the likelihood that my site got slapped by google and what course of action should I follow to get out of it? I was building links using 4 anchor texts so it's not like I was over-optimising. I have stopped building links right now. Anybody reckons that a google dance (if mine is one) can last for around a week?

Any Suggestions?

If your site still shows up in Google then it's not slapped.

It's entirely possible that your site was new and they just ranked it higher. After a certain period of time passes, they just simply determined your site wasn't worth being on the front page and lowered the ranking to where they think it should belong. It's also possible that it's just still dancing and you disappeared from rankings for a short period of time, it happens.
 
There is no for sure way to tell if your site is penalized or dancing outside of owning Google itself. However, search your exact title in quotes. Then search a few sentences in Google as well. If they show up highly for your search terms then chances are it's just a dance. If they aren't found, it's likely a penalty.
 
I don't think four anchors is enough. I had a site that was ranking high pre-Panda, which has now disappeared so far down I can't find it within the first 10 pages. It has a reasonable amount of content - about 18 pages. I think it was hit because I was only targeting about 6 anchors.

Could be that yours got caught up in a manual review - as it could be with mine too.

this is just a bullshit

if your site shows up - you are still indexed, yet i doesn't mean you got no slap or penalty.

Honestly, it still might be some quite long dance, as usually it disappears for few days at most and then bounces back to serps.

but most likely you got penalty for lacking anchors variations.

Sorry, I was referring being de-indexed.
 
4 or 5 days is too early to know anything for sure. If you believe that you're doing the right link building then don't stop.
 
12 days since you made this post. If your site is yet to come back to its previous position, its definitely a slap.
 
Wait some days but your website is most likely fucked up so don't hope you'll ever see it in 1st-2nd page.
 
its been 8 days and my website is still nowhere?? :(

Almost all of the websites on the first page are promoting the same affiliate product and are thin mini sites as well then wtf went wrong with mine..maybe it's because my website was formatted to look kinda like a landing page? with big red headlines and call to action? I barely ranked on first page for 2 days and got slapped.. Is there a chance of any recovery or should I just move on?

P.S: It was a 1 year old domain.. and I dont have GWT installed so how do I tell what went wrong>

there was panda update on 20 december, that might be the cause.
 
It seems to be a dance guys.. yesterday my site recovered it's rankings for all keywords, slightly higher from where it vanished.
 
It is a scary thought when a dance happens and you think your website just got slapped. Take it easy and build some
high quality links and I am sure everything will be okay.
 
The way to tell is to type your entire domain name into the search box. If you don't get any results, then your site has been deindexed and you have been slapped!
