Wanted to find out if i am experiencing the Google Dance Or a penalty.

My site was ranking number 5 and 6 for almost 2 months then i bought some strong links over the last month and just few days ago my site dropped to page 5 and 6

i wanted to know your thoughts if it was a penalty i would be not ranking at all correct?

im thinking its just the links i bought and will come back even stronger in about a week

If that was my site, the fact that it had dropped to the page 5/6 region would be significant to me.

That is simply because it's quite often the case (in fact, in a rather high percentage of cases) that going to page 5/6 means it's about to bounce back hard, and rank well.

I don't know why that happens, or if indeed thats even 'a thing', but, I've noticed it quite a lot.

Give it a week - see what happens.

But I think you'll be fine.
 
Give it a week or two and see what results you would get. A few days of drop in rankings is not conclusive... give it a bit of time.
 
Give it some time.And keep adding new content and building links to your site .That should pop back to it's previous rankings.
 
There are many similar topics on your website are marked with dublikat content. It brings a bit of hits to your website. And you google downgraded. That's just my opinion
 
Don't worry until you reach to 25 -30 page. Sites with penalty directly goes to 28-27 page or loose indexing.
 
Don't worry, it is not penalty, you will get back your previous position within few days :)
 
You can also check in GWT if you got a manual penalty. Cause page 5/6 also can mean you got penalised.

It seems like a usual Google dance because if it is a penalty then your site would be thrown much away. Moreover, GWT used to intimate you in case of penalty. So, don't worry..... and wait, you will get your old position soon.

I don't know why this is the case but I have to agree with tony on this. My sites have a tendency of taking a small dive especially after getting a few nice links but then they bounce back in a few weeks even stronger... go figure why.

That's not necessarily the case as you may get -50 or so penalty when you move from page 1 to page 5 but can't break above page 4.
 
people nowadays are so paranoid about google serps !!!
we all know google its NOT safe for work
your website can be wiped out any day with out a reason.
 
It probably a google dance, don't don anything for two weeks let it be as it is.
