Google Dance or Google Penalty?

My site has ranked for 6 to 7 months now on the 1st page but yesterday it moved to 5th to 7th page and fluctuating. I have built several types of links that includes web 2.0's, SB's, forum profiles, and some PBN links but not in an aggressive manner. The site is 2 and half years old already. I tried to research in the forums about this case and some say it could just be a G-Dance, a 'Thin Content Penalty', or an Algorithm-penalty. I didn't enlist my site to the WMT though.


Is there any possible way to distinguish if I've gotten a penalty without putting my url to the WMT? Any symptoms or signs if this is just a dance or already a penalty? I am very saddened with what happened to my site as it is my main money site.

What is the reason you don't put in WMT? Is it that blackhat that you are afraid that Google will punish you for it? I've always put my white- and blackhatsites in it but never got punished for that. At least you know if there is something going on with Google.
 
Has your site recently gone? When my sites get hit they tend to go from page 1 to 5 / 6 then completely fade off. If it has been hit your best bet to recover for a while is change your domain then 301 your old domain to your new one.
 
Well what happened to your other keywords? Did they fall off the map too?
 
Did you built any links recently? If no, i think you should try putting your site in GWT. Wait for 30 mins to see if there's any manual penalty. If you don't see anything, you can delete your site from GWT again. Happened to me when i got hit with a manual penalty. From 1st page all the way to 5th page and in 1 day.
 
relax give it a few more days and see what happened. I had the same scenario when I added PBN links to my site. Ranking from 10 to 11 then suddenly it drop back to 180+ position. I didn't panic as my other kw's didn't drop. Then after a few days it comes back stronger and from 10 to 11 position it jumped to #3.
 
There's a possible Google update going on now. There may be nothing wrong with your site at all if we are in a Google update flux. Relax and let the dust settle is my advice.
 
Oh, thanks for all the responses. I decided to enlist my site to the WMT and to my surprise, I actually didn't receive any of the dreaded notifications (my mind already accepted the fact). I really hope this is just a G-Dance or an Algorithm change and hoping my site would be back to its rankings. From $100+ a day back to $5-$10 again. *sigh
 
I noticed a significant change in the last 3 days also. Jumped right up top for last 2 days, then dropped slightly again today. Not really any big drop in my case though. Maybe some small g update
 
my site was on 9 position for 5 month. yesterday it dropped on 5 page after 2-3 hour it ranked on 14 position. i dont understand what was happening
 
What's your anchor text ratio like? Add your site to WMT, might turn up something. If not, as the others have said, wait it out for ~ 1 week and see where you stand.
 
Add your site in webmaster tool and find if there is any spam backling to your website. May be your competitor did negative seo for your website. If this happen you can disavow those links...
