The logo change is actually pretty interesting. When you apply some logic to it.
When Google started off they were using a serif typeface. Which is typically reserved for old, traditional companies like The New York Times. But now that they're getting OLDER, they're switching to a younger, more contemporary typeface.
If you wanna think traditionally, they should have started with the contemporary, simple type face early on and changed to the serif type face.
But Google did it backwards.
And you gotta respect that. When they were young and brand new, they were using the serif almost as an NLP anchor for credibility. It's almost like they put an old mask on a young face to make them seem more trustworthy. They had the serifs to attract the elderly crowd, and the colors to attract the younger crowd.
Now that they've gotten older, but are still relatively young, they got the brand loyalty and are removing their old serif mask.
I liked the older one cause it had stronger visual anchors. But in a month I won't even remember what it looked like.
