Google Changes May 4th - 5th 2010 - Thoughts?

It seems that this is just a newer version instead of having those hard to see links at the top you'll just have nicer looking icons in the left hand side. They probably feel that their algorithm can filter and organize their results a lot better than before for them to bring this front and center the way they are.

The same here. I couldn't see any changes in my rankings yet.
 
This is simply a cosmetic change people. Nothing more, nothing less.
 
sucks, i liked the old way to show search results :D
 
It's extremely annoying and makes me want to switch to something else.

There keyword tool change also sucks big time, I have to go through the uk external keyword tool and switch it to U.S. to get back to the old way.

Google fucks shit up.
 
I really don't like the new thing on the left side bar, it really annoys me, it had been showing on my other computer for some weeks but now it started showing on my working laptop which I use the most and I basically hate it :madfawk:
 
i hate the new layout too . Lol , i tried everything , restarting my laptop , signing in and out of google , virus scanning , but then i got to know , that it's a permanent google layout change.
 
The left sidebar thing is useful because it gets date-based searching easily available to everyone. Now when you want to search something that the blag-o-sphere got all twitterpated about 3 years ago, you can exclude that shit.
 
I dont see the SERP for any keywords. I based my KW research on it -

I wonder how to measure the competition of existing pages for any given keyword.

Agree with you. G is also pushing that $**t translator. Now i have to compete with sites not only from US but from germany, spain etc.

Exactly... I'm seing this for months though there are some innovations today like blogs, some more specific photo search etc..

Traffic can be better only if there are some time related events. I run a soccer site so I can see some traffic on big matches after someone scores a goal and I post a video soon.

Otherwise, nothing special at all
 
BTW, just checked a screenshot from OP's link - it's not like this on our local Google. There is still a link on the top that drops other links on the left bar
 
Over the last 6 months I sold most of my sites off, but for the 15 or so I still have up I have not seen any noticeable changes in the SERPS. My position will always be: Quality Content + User Interactoin + Quality Links = Big G Domination.
 
Damn, the new layout sucks (nice features though). I guess Google's trying to emulate bing.
 
It looks like more like google adwords. This could be very good for them and us as well. People will get used to these search results that look like ads and our ads will have more credit to google users.
 
i dont know this is coincidence or not,
but after this google change, my site drop to page 2.

I'll investigate this thing.
