Google is changing every day and it is improving or moderating something all the time. Sometimes it is hard to follow all the innovations.

Agreed. Either we improve ourselves or wait to be left behind.

I also agree with that. The thing is that over the last few months, Google's direction has been to target the keywords as the cataloging system and the onpage content as the source of ranking information.

Where maps are concerned, it appears that they have taken it out of the ranking factors outside of an onsite address matching the locations of the sites relevant locations it is discussing in context.

It is only to be expected that they are going to continue to make changes for better suiting their overall ranking system, however, it still leads people to believe that onpage content is the key element to ranking with them.

With that being the case, as it has been for sometime now...more and more features like maps are going to be taking that same direction. Re-evaluate how you use maps and the content on the pages around them, as it is clear that if the page of content isn't spot on, they will dump you off the ranks.

Sad thing is that they don't tell you what they are looking for and making another round of the google cat and mouse crap they always play. Split test the crap out of your pages and hang in there guys.

improving is highly subjective... degree of innovation is too... some might say they have been making more profits lately by copying too many of bing's strategies without fully thinking it through. A lot of hardcore techies jumped off the google bandwagon this year. From what I see and read everyday popular opinion looks like it may follow.

Forgetting marketing, seo and everything else, this doesn't seem like an improvement at all. Perhaps I'll get used to it, but the G search results are mostly generating crap in my opinion. Not for everything, but for a lot of things.

Agreed too, we have to develop the skills of being VALUED.

Develop the reputation that we need and being known for good marketing of websites. Professionals that give useful and helpful resources to users and audiences and not just paying someone to have 1K to 1M instant visitors.

That's the whole problem. They are ' testing ' what they want to do and works best for them, just as much as we are testing to find out what they have already changed and adapt to it.

They need to charter a list of set upgrades and make those upgrades, instead of live field testing to the point that bing is looking good as the leading option these days because they atleast have their system stable enough to use and track without new alterations changing the rules for the current testing.

Google is primarily testing to have things focus on onpage content now more than anything. Their current changes have all been in that arena. They are still using keyword meta tags for catalogging a site in the search, even though it has nothing to do with rank ability outside of that.

Google isn't ever going to tell us what they are after, which is the reason they are trying to hide it. It has become such a cat and mouse game that they don't want us to figure it out nor succeed. The hunt keeps people so busy that they never stop to look at the bigger picture of what is really going on.

The bottom line is that I don't think they have a clue what they are doing anymore than we know what it is they are doing.

    Food for thought.
