Google Broad Core Update December 2020

I got hit by the December update but today my rankings recovered. Anyone else see the same?

I did alright through the initial core update but lost about 60% on one of my sites today.

Glad to hear that. Are they back to the same levels as before?
Not completely, but they almost are. Some keywords are higher now than they were before the update. This is a relatively new site though so it's hard to make accurate assessments because there's naturally quite a lot of back and forth in the rankings.

For everyone who has been hit, what is the plan?

Just keep publishing and carry on as normal?

Planning to start working on a site which got more rankings (I abandoned it for about 6 months).

Do basic site audits to ensure you have the fundamentals covered. Ensure silos are set up properly and structured data. Fill content gaps. Buy links. Pray.

Guys, is anyone still experiencing stagnant traffic since the May update? i thought this update might have been what my site needed to get it moving again but it hasn’t really gone anywhere. Despite adding author bios, increasing page speeds, improving CLS and LCP, and most importantly, adding over 180 new articles since August 9th, I’m still stuck at like 15-17k monthly views. everything is white hat so no shady stuff. This absolutely blows.

Yes, me, for one site. Other site remains impacted.

Site 1 - less than 12 months old - Built on expired domain with lots of existing backlinks from authoritative sources. I built 3 - 4 guest post links every month. This site has mostly recovered or looks to be recovering:

Site 2 - less than 12 months old - New domain, barely any linkbuilding. Remains impacted.

Your comment is absurdly wrong and I had to reply -
We've hired @splishsplash consulting and link building services over a year ago, not because he tried to 'sell' us his packages/knowledge, but the OPPOSITE is the truth:
He was extremely communicative, patient and helpful with us, answering ALL of our questions (which were sent on private) and he guided us (completely for FREE) about website silo and the proper infrastructure our site really needed back then.
During the whole time and message correspondence he didn't try for a single time to upsell or to ask for money, NOTHING. Which in fact was suspicious because who's working for free these days...? :p

Anyway, we started to follow his activity and posting on BHW, and very quickly realized how his SEO knowledge is priceless, and I'm not exaggerating.
Then after we were completely certain he knows his shit, we started to implement his suggestions (which again, we got for $0), and we INSTANTLY saw a positive ranking boost in one of our properties.

And what happened next? WE reached @splishsplash asking to hire him. Thank god he said yes (that's one of our properties after the spoken algorithm update, 100%~ increase in impressions thanks to @splishsplash) -

I read some other bad attitude comments about this purely honest and clever guy, and it finally hit me - people are extremely ungrateful...
I never saw anyone of BHW helping that much and providing THAT MUCH value and insights about SEO or anything else, for 100% free. NEVER.
Even if you don't agree with his points, which is absolutely fine of course, this guy doesn't deserve any of the backlash posted here.

Of course, he's not a saint or something, but claiming that his SEO insights/value are worthless and all he's doing is upselling people, is unbelievably stupid, arrogant and shameful.

Don't take my words for granted, check his posting activity and judge yourself.

P.S
Here's another property @splishsplash helped us with: no traffic increase, but the traffic is steady even after the recent update (note that during weekends traffic always drops) -

I agree. I learned tons of new things from @splishsplash. you could argue that what he is saying is BS. but once you go back and look at everything you have done wrong over the last few years and him telling you how things should have been done, you wish you had known him few years ago. it would have made life a lot easier. this is why i keep saying to others to read what he is writing multiple times and think about your mistakes and i am sure a light will go on.

I just went and re-tested against the PageSpeed Insights test. I get a 99 mobile / 100 desktop and I have bounced back some but I'm still down. Went down 50% at first and then bounced back around 20% a day or so later. Still way too early to draw conclusions but another data point always helps. The answer is in there somewhere.
may i know the theme that you are using and any plugins that got you that kind of speed!?!?!?!?!??!!?

Hello,
For anyone that get dropped during this update:

1) How is your speed score in mobile and desktop
2) How is your website ux?
i checked multiple different niches and even my pages.... could not find any correlation in this update and speed. even in my own website, a page is ranked #1, with so so speed and another page is not #1 and it has very good speed.

i noticed the same thing starting 16 hours ago.

For everyone who has been hit, what is the plan?

someone made a comment that it seems that google is awarding sites that get to the point of answering user intention with normal amount of text and not with writing a novel. see if you see such correlation on your side in your niche. also investigate to see if your H tags do carry questions users ask for. for example, do you have questions like "what is xyz", "what are the benefits of XYZ", "how do you use xyz", etc. stated in your H tags. look into this and see if you see such correlation. on my side, i have seen this correlation.

All-time low yesterday for me and today will be worse if Google analytics are accurate. Trying not to drown in my own tears lol.

Guys. Can everyone lay off the hammering?

I share very openly with you all here on the forum, and I don't ask for anything in return.

At the same time I'm getting hammered by multiple people here, I have 50 PMs with multiple people asking for help. I do free site analyses for people and do my best to help as many as I can.

None of those people back me up here and I'm just getting accused of being some 'guru'.

I am very busy and I do my best to give you guys my time for FREE.

If ANYONE here has ever seen me try to upsell them anything, show some screenshots. Every person that contacts me for free help I *NEVER* try to sell you links, consulting or anything. So for some of you to come out and call me a guru is bad.

I'm feeling like I'm fed up sharing stuff only to get this kind of energy back.

Seraphiel, and anyone else who gave their site a few months ago for the statistical study. I sincerely apologize to anyone I wasn't able to get back to, and I have offered Seraphiel help in private, but I am not charging anyone anything. It's all completely free help, and rather than be grateful someone is taking the time to write guides to help you build sites, people just attack and complain because I'm either a 'guru' or I'm not doing enough.

I don't understand where this massive self-entitlement attitude is coming from in the world these days. It's ridiculous. Something given completely free, with no strings attached. You don't even have to give me an email address and you're getting guides and help, and yet I'm being made out as the bad guy. Come on.

I reached out to a bunch of people and one of them was @splishsplash, before I started working on my site, he was super cool about it, gave me some monetization ideas, told me about his experiences building websites and what I'd need to move forward (FYI: I used to build back in the day with pure spam). His guide on SILOing is also rock solid, goes into detail.

I mean, it's okay to disagree. But he ain't upselling! I actually asked him if he could find me a specific type of domain that I was looking for and he straight up told me he had no time but pointed me towards other sellers whom he is not affiliated with. He also looked at a couple domains that I was interested in at that point, all of this for free. Never told me to buy any PBN links in the future or anything at all.

Let's not fuck people over, give credit where it is due.

@splishsplash Tom is one of the best and honest guy on this forum who has a deep knowledge of SEO. He has given me a lots of advice for my affiliate websites for FREE by spending his precious time (I know he is very busy).

No seller has ever given me advice, they all just try to sell except for Tom.

If you think he tries to sell, then you're one delusional guy because its the opposite.

He has the best PBN network and he will say NO to your face if your spammed website doesn't belong to his network.

Saw some nice increase in traffic after 60% drop

Google enjoys monopoly, decides who is good or bad. Meanwhile Bing, DuckduckGo, Yahoo and more say otherwise. I wish a day would come when the internet will be free of Google's bullshit
