Google Broad Core Update December 2020

My client's website (affiliate website in couple of different niches) has been hit hard since May update, traffic has been declining since May and I didn't notice any improvements with this new update. We are going to remove a lot of content and see if that's going to help.

My website has been hacked not that long ago and i had it fixed.

Anyway i just noticed that my redirection plugin had been disable (maybe it was something to do with the hack)

I changed the urls on some of my pages a while back and used this plugin to redirect from the old url to the new.

I have just sent all the redirections live again. I have no idea if this could cause a loss in rankings or not but thought i would share.

Outdated plugin, not used theme-template, using older version of any script despite of updates. Are the primary reason to get attacked!! My advice is that never use any plugin which don't have any real use. And remove all unused plugins..

Many of my sites just use one or two plugin. And they work just fine.;)

About a 60% drop in traffic over past days on 3 of my big sites that are constantly updated and have high-quality articles. These are whitehat sites following all best practices. Another site I haven't touched in 6 months just jumped to double traffic weirdly.

I feel like the only way to do google this day and age is to diversify like crazy since their updates are all over the place. Do 1 blackhat pbn site, do 1 whitehat site, one site you update often, one site you let site with slow drip content. The wild swing of these updates makes doing seo and site buying too much like gambling right now. They should just stop f'ing with the algo, its the classic too many cooks in the kitchen now playing with their spaghetti code.

Let's call it "The Dirty Coal Update". Santa is pissed that 2020 happened, so this is him putting dirty coal in all our stockings. Instead of him giving us gifts, we have to give him gifts -- in the form of money. He says that if we want gifts, then we have to gift him first, by buying Santa Ads, so he can charge us for clicks to MAYBE get returns on our investments.

..and if you think Santa is pissed right now, just wait until 2021.

I agree with you, except with one very small caveat: If you are the cause of the company earning $30,000 / month from that 1 keyword, up from say, $0 - $10,000 (give or take a few thousand), then yes, painful as it may be, they should trust in your ability as a professional at what you do, to be their best option for recovering. However, if they were already at, say, $18,000 - $30,000 (give or take a few thousand), then I agree 100%.
love this video btw

Things might get a bit on ugly side while google is rolling out the update. I would suggest all to wait for 3-4 weeks and let google start crawling its index again, positions will most likely return if someone lost them during the rollout.
And there are sometimes bugs in these new algos which mess up the ranking and results.
So just wait and watch for now.

My main sites, B2B and e-comm, have very little flux last 4 days. Noticing some changes but nothing drastic yet. Keep waiting, fingers crossed, and plug away! Good luck to everyone, especially for those of you who have not recovered from the May update.

The same was said when the May update was rolling out and guess what happened? The rankings never went back to the previous state :)

My 1000 words article got outranked by 140 words piece of shiit. This has happened earlier too.
As more people will do piggybacking on the #1 thin content web page, my web page will rise in ranking as I use tables, bullet points, images, references to authoritative sources.

Authority built solely on the basis of backlinks will doom without content.
The broad core updates seem to push websites with more backlinks and age up and then because these websites are quite old with thin content, they get demoted due to on-page factors.

Rankings don't return back if that authority website also shows some on-page factors like (not clicking on the browser back button)

That is why this drama happens with every update.

Cheap PBNs, spun content on backlinks and just straight up obvious SEO work done that would make many members here think you'd get penalized in 3 hours. Never had a problem with it. :D

Gotta love how Google does updates right before Christmas like clockwork. Last year I lost a really profitable site because of it. Thanks for the Christmas gift ya *****.

Do you mean GSA links and xrumer links?

Problem with this is that we miss Christmas sales. Lots of em.

This is the first one I got hit some in. Two days ago I was at an all-time high for traffic in fact. I'm noticing sites with thin content near the top, and quite a bit of Amazon unrelated links showing up. I'm at about half the traffic from last Friday. Best guess I'm down 20% or so.

Google is a company, and "do no evil" doesn't really exist. Companies have to do what makes the most money so it really might be a factor. I do know recently when working on things and searching for 20 minutes on google i had to finally use Duck Duck Go to find what I needed. Maybe it was partially this update happening early but the results for the past week just haven't been remotely matching what I was searching.

Anyone else seeing google sites showing up way higher than before?

I am not a fanatic of mass position traking but I am not seeing any change on many of my sites.

My site completely disappeared in rankings today, came here wondering why and learned this. Interesting. Wonder if it's dead now or not

2 old sites. One up big and the other down big.

Newer sites are a mixed bag with someflat, up, or down.
