Google Broad Core Update December 2020

I only see a spike up/down a few days ago then back to normal, nothing brainstorming.

I am observing for 2 weeks, Let's see how it goes..!

So on my end...

I had one site that was negatively impacted in May. Not destroyed, but lost all of its top 3 ranking spots. Most keywords remained on page one, but down toward the bottom. Big traffic and revenue loss. It made money, but maybe 1/3. Site number 2 was basically unchanged.

This is now the opposite. Site 1 has gone back to were it was pre-may. Site 2 - well pretty much red. I still have top 10 ranking, but way at the bottom.

Maybe these algo updates should just be named "May Coin Toss...December Coin Toss".

I suppose that as long as they arent tanked into total oblivion, and some revenue coming in, I can work with that.

But, it's still a burn to put so much time into writing real content only to be overrun by press release, old content, and category spam. Wait...I have an idea....lol

I like to call the updates "make SEO people move over to our PPC ads so we can stack $$$ booooooi" - There's no other reason IMO. They're shuffling to F with people.

So that's why one of my sites got triple traffic. Blackhat wins, again.
can you explain a bit more what you mean by BH method? Is it about building links or what?

Let's call it "The Dirty Coal Update". Santa is pissed that 2020 happened, so this is him putting dirty coal in all our stockings. Instead of him giving us gifts, we have to give him gifts -- in the form of money. He says that if we want gifts, then we have to gift him first, by buying Santa Ads, so he can charge us for clicks to MAYBE get returns on our investments.

..and if you think Santa is pissed right now, just wait until 2021.

If my SEO guy came at me with that same excuse id go and find someone else.

I understand what your saying but when a business has staff losing this much income could result in staff loses then you have an set guy telling me "to trust them to figure it out" I know where my first wage bill or outgoings would be cut.
I agree with you, except with one very small caveat: If you are the cause of the company earning $30,000 / month from that 1 keyword, up from say, $0 - $10,000 (give or take a few thousand), then yes, painful as it may be, they should trust in your ability as a professional at what you do, to be their best option for recovering. However, if they were already at, say, $18,000 - $30,000 (give or take a few thousand), then I agree 100%.

Cheap PBNs, spun content on backlinks and just straight up obvious SEO work done that would make many members here think you'd get penalized in 3 hours. Never had a problem with it. :D

Gotta love how Google does updates right before Christmas like clockwork. Last year I lost a really profitable site because of it. Thanks for the Christmas gift ya *****.

My clean site with about 4 niche edit links was in position #2 on page 1 of Google....now slapped to page 2. No spammy links. Just good, authority links.

Excellent on page seo.

What the hell is going on?

Quite a lot of dancing on my side, according to ahrefs i lost quite many keywords that were ranking Page3+
Let's see what happens in a week.

My website has been hacked not that long ago and i had it fixed.

Anyway i just noticed that my redirection plugin had been disable (maybe it was something to do with the hack)

I changed the urls on some of my pages a while back and used this plugin to redirect from the old url to the new.

I have just sent all the redirections live again. I have no idea if this could cause a loss in rankings or not but thought i would share.

My first page rankings are nowhere to be seen. I'm effed up.

Yes, and whenever Google updates its search ranking algorithms, it means that your site can do better or worse in the search results. Hope it should be better for all websites.

Analytics since Jan 1st, not seeing much in Dec, but Covid hit hard.

Went from a 7-8% conv rate on my ecom store with G ads, to a 0.65% in the last day and a half.

Not sure if the google update has anything to do with that?

To make things even stranger, around 15% of people add to cart.

Haven’t changed anything, and the payment processor still works fine.

Very odd indeed :suspicious:
