Google Broad Core Update December 2020

No changes so far... according to our rank tracker.

Anyway, let's hope it sticks, and for all of you who lost rankings, do your own analysis and try to be objective toward yourself - if it's bad/average, improve! If not, just continue with good content and wait for May 2021 update!

Still need to check few other properties, some of them barely touched for months/years (evergreen content) but shitty FID/CLS so we'll see, gonna make an update once I know more!

This happened this morning, or before?
 
in my case I have seen traffic drop 1 day (around 24 hours before the update was announced)
traffic down by aprox 15-20% on most of my sites
 
I just saw a huge spike of 33% on the average position of about 120 keywords on my main site.
Not gonna start being happy yet but still a nice sight.
Pretty blackhat on the links side but with perfect content.
 
Hello, I noticed the movements already. In the May update, I lost 30-40% of traffic and now I see that positions that I had in May are coming back from Today.

Its just in the last 2 months most of my other income streams have have been taken out all in a short amount of time to the point I am not only struggling to keep pumping money into this authority site, but also my daily bills.

i say it would be the probably end for me with SEO as I don't think I could invest such money again on a new project.

The update isn't totally complete yet so hopefully i will bounce back.

I understand. Just prioritize your bills and living expenses first, building an authority site takes long and a lot. It can wait, and as you say it's just the first day. Usually rankings after big algo update won't settle for at least 2 weeks in my experience, so expect bumps and downs. One site got from #1 to #8 today (finance niche, so I expect a call if they notice lol).

Perhaps start a few smaller projects that don't need much investment but can generate some money? Like some local seo gigs. Whatever you do, don't make any decisions too soon. Holding fingers crossed you come out ahead, at the end of the "day".

out of curiosity, what do you tell a client when this kind of thing happens?
 
It is such a dipshit move from google to make such an impactful update in December just to ruin everyone's holidays, and this is not the first time they did. My BH sites with pure spinned crap are ranking better than ever, I got even a couple of them which are marked as unsafe by google but with a simple redirect, they still bring a nice amount of traffic. On the other hand, I have several larger WH websites, 100+ unique articles written by me, and around 3-4 years old websites. By WH I mean that no links were ever built and every link is organic, and these ones get slapped around with every fukin "core update"

Explain the situation. Usually, I do that at the start of a working relationship. At this point I'd just tell them that during updates, random jumps and drops are part of the process until G re-evaluates and settles down. Only after that we can analyze and gather data to see what can be done to improve if the results stay bad after the roll out is complete.

It helps if you never make guarantees and promises you can't deliver on. If they know the general process from the beginning, and you provided them with the results, they will trust you to figure things out.

I honestly believe that my content is good and compared to my rivals its good also.

This is the first site I've ever truly put effort into. 14 months work and many $1000's.

A terrible day here also. Almost all my keywords dropped from the first page. Btw it is a new website!
 
Why some people "google rolled out the update a few days ago".
semrush sensor is 9.4 atm... so something must be going on.
Yes, I know it takes about 2 weeks for the results to settle.
