I said answer engine, not answer database. Those two are quite different.

With Wolfram Alpha, a user is looking for answers rather than references to find content (search engine). I can't add urls yet so I'm going to quote Wolfram Alpha's FAQs here directly.


Where does Wolfram|Alpha's data come from?

Wolfram|Alpha's data comes from its internal knowledge base, curated by the Wolfram|Alpha team. Some of that data is derived from official public or private sources, but most of it is from more systematic primary sources. Source information is available for results, providing background sources and references. Unlike search-based systems, Wolfram Alpha does not rely on material dynamically retrieved from public web sources.

Wolfram Alpha does not automatically crawl the internet for Information. Information is added or reviewed manually reviewed official resources. They decide what is good information and bad information essentially manually.

Google on the other hand just crawls the internet and indexes content. It then spews out results based on search terms using proprietary algorithms. These proprietary algorithms are trying to discern good content from bad, as much as as they're trying to discern relevant content from irrelevant content. It doesn't answer questions as much as it points to hopefully relevant content. Content has always been king. If you have good content, everything else (PR, backlinks etc.)should come automatically.

From the official google blog where this "knowledge graph" was first published, you'll notice that the author talks about how search results are interpreted and displayed rather than how content is indexed.

Google tracks your browsing habits through Cookies! If you use Chrome Browser and/or Android then its all over before its even begun!

I'm surprised it took this long. Many sites, like Pinterest, don't work -at all- without javascript.

This is going to be interesting...of course somebody will come up with something to make this work in a webmaster's favor.

Speaking of bounce rate, Ads above the fold increase bounce rate as the user might click on it and leave your site without reading the content and this might explain why google started demoting sites having the ads far above the content lately so the best place for ads now is within the content or at the end of the content.

It's crap. Wont work. Users will get sick of having ads for stuff they bought last week following them around the internet. Marketing gurus will publish more interesting game play ads that get people clicking and fool Google into believing a page with a game is more important than a page without a game because of the number of clicks and amount of time a user spends on it. Directory sites with low bounce rates will supposedly regain past glory! Think about it. If you want to find red widgets with brass knobs on and you surf to a page of full of a variety of widgets you're gonna click around till you poke the right one. No need to leave the place. So even better for eCommerce sites like amazon! You'll get stupid sites that say 'click me to change my skin and loads of assholes will do it just to see the darn page turn crocodile or something... (hey not a bad idea,,, how do you do that!)

Its all just BULL. G wants to sell more advertising real estate and that's all they will achieve.
