well contrary to popular belief the workers at google aren't completely retarded - they've learned from their mistakes and are growing. they will be taking many anti-botting measures and many people thinking that they are coding an executable bot for it in reality are just telling google to penalize their site.

Then it will be easier to harm other sites ... its gonna be exploited, one way or the other

I highly doubt they make it a significant factor, at least not in the first weeks or even months after introduction. They will check, verify and compare. My guess is that it will be a factor amongst many, and that it will be mainly used to promote "+1ed" search results if they appear in your contacts searches. So, no gain for the masses, only for your friends. Still, I just began liking my properties, just in case

Now now guys... I'm sure we are more than capable of exploiting Google.... haven't we shown that by now?

Yeah agreed there's always been ways to harm competitors but I'd say there are others that are far more lucrative.

Guys, no matter whatever google brings, it will be only minor factors. The main factor will be still only links. This +1 may affect serp a little bit like "bounce rate".

As long as it doesnt change we can molest G. And I see its not changing any time soon.

BTW, I agree with MAD in this. Its not easy exploiting this. If you can, you can exploit adsense too...

Say a query receives 30k searches. 1k of those have the vote thing enabled.
If your votes are in line with other user you will gain trust.

Your google profile needs to have activity and friends to be viewed as a useful vote (spammers don't have friends.)
Also those votes will be made public.

Also I imagine google will randomly check if votes are not bull and will set characteristics that define weird behavior.
Proxy is very easy to detect and users that are only active when voting are suspicious.

If you were to create a clickbot that would have some impact it would need all the characteristics of a real human.
Home isp addresses that log on and search for things, have js enabled, actually find and upvote useful resources that will be screened and needs to correspond to what other users have defined.

In short, the resources it would take to create such a bot would by far exceed the gain that you might get.
It's not google that's going to get fucked.... it's you.

most people don't sign into their google account when they search for a keyword. It's actually different from FB where you are forced to sign in when you want to use it.People use FB on daily basis to check other status, post, pics, and video, hence why they click facebook like button easily...

non internet savvy users don't use google every day, even if they do so, they only search for 2-3 keywords then forget it. Most people who use Google for more serious keywords (not just funny stuffs) usually won't bother to go back and click "+1". People in FB usually click "like" button when they feel "agree" with someone's opinion or they laugh when someone post a funny status/pic/video. It's not the same with Google. When you want to know about specific medication, you will open 3-4 websites at once to confirm each other statement. You won't bother to click +1 to any of this website just because "now I know everything about this medicine". Usually people click "like" button when they agree, not when they get a new knowledge. Something that I believe why people use Google the most (because they want to know, they want to search)

It's like someone make a quote in Facebook saying "Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people"

but in Google, when you see a web page "It was roosevelt who made the quote - great minds discuss ideas, bla bla bla", would you click +1 button? I dont think most people will.

And I dont think you can compare this to adsense. Adsense is related to adwords. When an advertiser feels he get cheated by a pub, he will complain to Google and this is something Google want to avoid the most. That's why they are monitoring it closely. (they even have a team specialized for adsense, where they don't have such team for monitoring +1 thingey i guess)

and also, i think this will be gamed and tweaked by PTC people. There are tons of people out there who would be happy to make cents by just signing up, reading, and clicking websites. Imagine when a lot of SEOs could pay them a lot more for just signing up, reading, being active, and clicking the +1 button...(and of course stay hidden under radar, outside the usual PTC iframing)

this service already exists and its not from google, I cna't remember where though.... now this is a REAL problem for blackhatters if they go this way
