SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Google is giving people the option of recommending Internet search results and online ads.

The ?+1? button rolls out Wednesday. It represents Google Inc.?s latest imitation of Facebook in an attempt to make it easier for its users to share their insights with their online contacts.

Google hopes to benefit from its version of Facebook?s ?Like? button by making its search results more relevant and its ads more tempting to click.

The +1 button initially will begin appearing next to search results and ads for a relatively small number of Google users. Anyone who wants to the +1 feature sooner can sign up at http://www.google.com/experimental .

Google plans to allow other websites to place the +1 button next to their content, too.

It's the death of doorway pages. Nice autoblogs rule.

Looks like a "revamp" to their old star system to me (what's the old star system?)

I wrote a thread about my thoughts on google, and how they would/are "crowdsourcing" data to rank sites awhile back...that thread.

It's only speculation, but this new release certainly lends credence to it.

Wouldn't this just make things worse? I mean, I assume within a few days we have people selling +1s for 0,0001 dollar.

this is stupid, so what for the obvious sites that people use everyday, so for example facebook will have millions of likes? lol

I was wondering when they will do something similar..
After I saw Blekko ranting about google going downhill and how they needed the human factor...

I am beginning to think G forgets the old "if it aint broke dont fix it". Instead of leaving well enough alone their gonna tweak themselves in to a cluster &^%$.

If you think Google is "begging to be exploited", why aren't people using the same strategy you assume will work on exploiting the "Google likes" to exploit Adsense?

Because Google is far smarter than you think. They don't just check for proxies. They check for everything from operating system to screen resolution.

The only people that are going to be able to "exploit" this "like" system are the SELECT few that are already successfully gaming Adsense. And that is a very select few, far beyond what BHW members are capable of.

something like Like Jacking would work better for this one than a clickbot.. I agree with the person above, clickbots are easily traceable...

I think you're right, although I would qualify that to be "far beyond what *MOST* BHW members are capable of."

I'm sure there are a few people on here capable of doing something with this, but the vast majority will only get burned if the even try.

:cool2:

+1 jacking?

Ya u can say that, but its gonna be easily shared thats for sure, cz the day it goes public, its gonna stop working... and moreover Googie guys must be all over BHW and other BH forums m sure

It's not as simple as just creating a bot.

Say a query receives 30k searches. 1k of those have the vote thing enabled.
If your votes are in line with other user you will gain trust.

Your google profile needs to have activity and friends to be viewed as a useful vote (spammers don't have friends.)
Also those votes will be made public.

Also I imagine google will randomly check if votes are not bull and will set characteristics that define weird behavior.
Proxy is very easy to detect and users that are only active when voting are suspicious.

If you were to create a clickbot that would have some impact it would need all the characteristics of a real human.
Home isp addresses that log on and search for things, have js enabled, actually find and upvote useful resources that will be screened and needs to correspond to what other users have defined.

In short, the resources it would take to create such a bot would by far exceed the gain that you might get.
It's not google that's going to get fucked.... it's you.
naturally the average of even above average desktop/executable bot coder will fail but it's possible for someone who deals with things like xss and such.

Actually it is going to be very very easy to rank sites now. Don't forget that very few people use google profiles and even less will click +1 on websites. And also I doubt google has all the capabilities you are talking about. In the first months it will raped to hell. Remeber 10 years ago what happened when links were intruced. Now it will be the same thing. Just blast blast and then blast some more.
