Hi i was wondering what is this google duplicate content ban all about , is there really anything like this ban or is it just a myth circulated all over the net. Even affiliate programs recommend to write all new fresh content on their templates. Please discuss.

duplicate content is a myth. It is all about the authority that you have in the niche to get over the duplicate content thing.

Agreed. I have taken my content in squidoo...and literally copy pasted over to wordpress. Next thing I know my squid lens is spot # 3 in google and my wp is spot # 5. Everything was the same..title...pics (names of pics)..content...tags...all duplicate and ranking first page.

I agree that duplicate content is a myth. At least, I see someone has proved it;her articles stay on page 1 (rank #3 and #4) in google and both articles exactly the same - one in 'ezine-article' and another one in 'go-article' with 'a keyword' have 13 million competition page without quote(or 9 million with quote). So far she stay there almost for 4 months now.

She only want to prove and to test it out that duplicate content is really a myth. Guess, what she did? She only did build many high PR backlinks to those article. :pcguru:

I have used the same articles on a few spots, blog-squidoo-ezine-ect, and havn't had any problems.

duplicate content on the same site is very a bad idea.

I have used duplicate content on Web 2.0 sites without any problem.

I have to agree, the guys who promote our comapnies web sites laugh when they read about 'Google baning content', as they say "who knows what is original conent?" but I suppose unless you work for the big G we'll never know.

can anyone tell me how to add high pr links to articles on ezinearticles

A lot of duplicate content gets sandboxed (I've witnessed this), but I haven't personally seen a ban because of it.

Though, duplicate content is in the adsense TOS if I do recall correctly - something about not having extensive amounts of duplicate content. That's the only reason that I would worry about dc.

If duplicate content ban exists, why all those big sites (especially those with news, articles, etc) are not get banned, then? :)

I think, it's a myth. I've used duplicate content on one of my wp blogs. I see visitors coming from G search, no problem at all. In fact, only the first page has original content, all the others are articles on my niche taken from the web. It's a kind of library, am I crazy to rewrite all those scientific things? So I simply let it as it is and I see ppl coming from G search.

Duplicate content is a myth. I use duplicate content and my site still rank well on Google =)

its not a myth...all of these so called myths come from somewhere the problem is that the words, meaning, and uses get all twisted around and it leads people to believe false assumptions.

i have a personal development/motivation site that is straight up yahoo answer copies. i dont rewrite them i dont do anything, yet everyday i get a ton of hits in my statcounter.

what i would suggest is that you just get a garbage website...blogger or hosted. and just post a ton of content you find from around the web. get some backlinks and trffic going and see how it does.

I've had duplicate sites wiped out, the last one was PR6 with over 500,000 indexed pages getting low-mid xx,xxx daily uniques and recently i woke up to it 100% de-indexed.

It's not the first time it's happened and won't be the last.

Typically no dupe content won't get you banned, but indeed it does happen.

How many times has this come up here in BHW?? lol

I, as well as many others, have answered this question time and again...

Guys, please use the search function!

Ok, now that my rant is out of the way, duplicate content will not get you banned in any way, but you definitely don't want it on the same site.

If you are going to post duplicate content on different sites like different Web 2.0 sites, then there really is no problem. I do this all the time, get ranked, and make money.

With that said, this is more of a quick hit strategy, and your rankings may fall a bit in the SERPs as time goes on and Google updates.

But there is no big time penalty. It's pretty much a myth.

+1 too myth. The pages with duplicate content google can add to supplement index, but its all that he do. no ban

i rank on the first page for

" why do women cheat on their spouses " , although its a hubpage , its duplicate content through out .

duplicate content is bullshit .

if u want to rank 1 , get good amounts of backlinks , loads of fake traffic and high paying keywords .

If you have the same content, identical, as another site, one will do well, the other will be put into the supplementary index.

The site with more Authority will win out everytime.

my duplicate contents don't get banned. but the ranking is extremely low.

i am depending very little from search engine organic traffic.

It is possible to rank with dupe content. However, it is also entirely possible that you will receive a penalty or a ban, especially if you have recently seen a rapid spike in a site's popularity.

I had a blog pulling 20K uniques per day average. My posts were regularly on page 1. Now they are on page 51. How do I know this was because of a duplicate content penalty?

Because when I use &filter=0 (which will allow a search without the dupe content filter), my site is back on page 1.

All this "dupe content is BS" stuff seems like wishful thinking to me. You may rank - for a while. Just get ready for a slap.
