I came across this and found it very interesting. Here's what I have gathered about google and social.
It's not how many links you get, it's about the quality
of those links. Links to your twitter are automated by
people retweeting or mentioning you, and google indexing
those. The quality is about the quality of those retweeters
and accounts that mention you. All my twitter accounts
are PR5+. That's what counts a little bit. If you have a twitter
about music, having 1000 nobody followers will do nothing.
Having Capital Records follow you, retweet you, or mention
you, will count big time. There are other "quality" music
twitters than capital. Just an example. The same could be
said for google+, pinterest, facebook likes, etc. Pointless
to get 10,000 useless likes from fake or nobody accounts.

This is really just an extension of PR. Getting a zillion links
from nobodies is useless. Getting one link from NYT will
send you up the PR and authority chart.

I'd be interested to see something beyond speculation. I like the idea, do you have any data to back up what you say?

As I wrote I found this, meaning not written by me..I just thought I would share it with the forum..it's pretty interesting.

It's pretty hard to say this and speculate that. At this point, it's still a theory despite the fact that it does sound reasonable unless you provide a case study or some important data.
