so i found this pdf file that contains great materials i would like to use on my website. the pdf contains images with text embedded in them (magazine style) but the text is still selectable.
when i take the first paragraph and do a google search, the pdf file doesn't come up in the SERP but only when i add site:"url of the pdf" that google finds it. and for certain portions google doesn't find the file at all ( even when i type the file url) so does this mean i can use the articles or is it considered as copied content?

Thinkable questions. Share your answers if any body know about it. am also waiting for replies.

Have you tried searching other paragraphs or just the first paragraph! ?

That's what I suggest you to read http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/09/pdfs-in-google-search-results.html

Keep us updated when you find the answer. I am sure the content is indexed somewhere.

if i understand u correctly - it means that this pdf document is indexed but is not present in SERP due to any reasons.
we call it supplemental SERP

I've searched different portions of the file. for some google finds it and for others it doesn't. but the whole document is selectable. perhaps google didn't index it all.

Did you search using quotes? "text inside"

if google find "some"... even if it is just some, i wouldn't use it at all
If you read the link posted above, not indexed doesn't mean they don't know it
